Female athletes like Simone Biles, Serena Williams, and Kerri Walsh Jennings are among the most physically fit women athletes in the world. Which leads them to be some of the most inspiring figures to those of us who like to mind our fitness! These extraordinary women have collectively won an almost ludicrous number of medals, titles, and championships. They’ve managed it at least in part because of how diligently and strategically they push and maintain their bodies.
Below, we’ll examine some of the achievements of these female athletes, as well as some of the specifics of their fitness routines.

1.) Simone Biles
Simone Biles is an American gymnast who won the gold medal in the individual all-around, vault, and floor events at the 2016 Olympics. The talented, artistic gymnast was also part of the gold medal-winning team, “The Final Five”. Who more or less stole the show throughout the same Olympic Games. Through it all, Biles established herself as perhaps the greatest athlete in her sport’s history. As well as one who was uniquely fit, even among Olympians.
We haven’t seen the last of her either. No one can wait to see how Biles will perform at the upcoming 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, where she’s widely expected to lead the U.S. team. Odds are that we’re in for another sensational performance. In fact, she could emerge from Tokyo as one of the most decorated Olympians of all time.
Clearly, Simone Biles has a great deal of natural talent and developed skill that have allowed her to reach these heights. Her devotion to fitness, however, has also played a major role. Biles trains for 32 hours every week to continue refining her impressive physique. She often practices cross-training, strength-training, swimming (up to a mile), and biking (sometimes 10 miles) in addition to her own sport. In the simplest way, she’s a reminder of the sheer power of regular cardio!
However, Biles also emphasizes the importance of proper stretching before and after every workout session. In fact, she’s even spoken about three favorite stretching positions. These positions are called the seated spinal stretch, the reclined half-pigeon, and the Achilles extension. Given how well they’ve served her, they might well be worth working into a routine!
2.) Serena Williams
Another incredibly accomplished female athlete is Serena Williams is an:
- Olympic gold medalist
- 39-time major title winner
- 23-time Grand Slam champion
- Many-time Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Player of the Year
- And seemingly perennial world number one player.
Few dispute the fact that she’s one of the best tennis players of all time, male or female – and she may just go down as the best when it’s all said and done.
Williams’s talent has always been off the charts, but it’s her fitness that’s impressing people most nowadays. Especially given that even at 37 and having overcome legitimate health scares, she’s still competing for the sport’s biggest titles.
There’s no telling just how hard Williams has worked to stay at this level and maintain her unmatched power, quickness, and agility. But we do know that she prefers to mix up her workouts. Serena combines biking, elliptical work, running (sprinting and long distance), and even dancing.
Williams also does weight training to enhance her muscle strength, coordination, and movement stability. It’s also been said that, like Biles, Williams will sometimes incorporate swimming into her routine, in order to strengthen her back and increase her lung capacity.
3.) Kerri Walsh Jennings
Kerri Walsh Jennings is an American professional beach volleyball player. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and a three-time FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships gold medalist. Her career has been so exemplary that she and her former teammate have been called the greatest beach volleyball team of all time. If not one the greatest female athletes of all time.
The renowned volleyball player has announced that she is hoping to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (postponed until July 2021). Despite the fact that she’s now 40 years old. No doubt if she does quality she’ll be one of the true stars of the American team. People love a familiar face at the Olympics, and Walsh Jennings specifically has been gathering fans for well over a decade now.
In order to stay fit, Kerri Walsh Jennings regularly practices Pilates, weightlifting, and pylometrics. She also incorporates a lot of cardio training into her workouts. Which includes harness sprints, facedown sprints per leg, lateral harness sprints per leg (focusing on high knees), lunges around the track, and more. On top of all that, she also plays volleyball on the sand for several hours per day when she’s training!
By no means are these three extraordinary athletes alone in providing fitness inspiration to women around the world. But they’re among the most hard-working and successful examples you’ll see in sports. Particularly given that they’ll all likely be competing in the 2021 Olympics this summer.
