An interview with Shawn Anderson

Going the extra mile can mean different things to different people. Shawn Anderson explains what going the extra mile means and his wisdom on how to achieve it in all areas of our lives.

Normally my intros are shorter but my guest on this episode is Shawn Anderson and you can only condense his accomplishments so much!

Shawn is a #1 ranked motivational author, unlimited thinker, and lifetime entrepreneur with a history of inspiring others. A seven-time author, Shawn is also the creator of Extra Mile Day. This is a day recognizing the power we each have to create positive change when we “go the extra mile.” (On 11/1/19, 533 cities made the declaration and recognized local extra-mile heroes.)

Shawn walks his talk. Besides having inspired tens of thousands through his speaking and writing (including an inspirational speaking tour in the Philippines attended by 20,000 attendees), Shawn’s built a million dollar company, pedaled a bike solo across the U.S. (twice), and created adventures in 45+ countries including having walked over 3,000 miles across seven countries since 2014 (England, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and 750 miles around Shikoku, Japan.) He will be walking across Scotland in May 2020.

The greatest adventures are waiting to be lived

Still…he believes his greatest adventures, successes (and treks!) are waiting to be lived. 

What resonated most with me and made me want to invite him onto the podcast is that he walks the talk. His mission to make a difference in volunteerism and service in the community resonated with me.

On this episode of Glamour & Gains we are chatting about all things related to health, fitness, and going for it at any age.

Shawn’s been working out for 40+ years. I wanted to know:

  • If and how his workouts have changed over time?

  • What his current goals are?

  • What he recommends nutrition wise (he’s been a vegetarian for over 30 years).

  • How he stays motivated?

His #1 GOAL is to maintain and keep up health. Working out to him isn’t going to the gym, it’s about breathing, seeing, moving, doing what you love and finding new things.

Shawn doesn’t focus on the pain of getting out there, he focuses on how great he will feel later and the results. He believes goals should be centered around feeling good and raising quality of your life, versus a certain length of time or distance.

When I asked about how he gtes enough protein in his diet as a vegetararian h recommended the vegetarian protein sources: nuts, almonds, beans (any eg garbanzo, kidney), Pea Protein Powder, almond milk. It comes down to finding out what works for you and tastes good to you. If you’re introducing new foods to your nutrition, give yourself and your body a chance.

Go the extra mile – is one of Shawn’s key messages

By which he means to stop living live on repeat. He wants everyone to go the extra mile in all that you do from work to relationships and health to create positive change.
