1 of the 1st people to have Snapchat Spectacles 1 (since 2016) thanks to the OG Snapbot Machine Search

Snapchat spectacles 1 blew up in 2016 thanks to Snapchats genius Snapbot missions and super limited supplies. 4 years later there’s been lots of updates including the snapchat glasses 3. My husband and I have always loved adventure, tech and gadgets so as soon as Snapchat released their spectacles via a treasure hunt, we were all over it.

What are snapchat spectacles and what do

snapchat spectacles do?

The spectacles are sunglasses that snap photos and 10-30 second videos that you can upload to your snapchat feed while you remain hands-free.

Where to buy snapchat spectacles

The snapchat sunglasses are still super fun and functional 4 years later especially with the latest release of the snapchat glasses 3. The OG style was a little clunkier and obvious but still wearable and came in black, aqua and coral. Originally, you could only buy snapchat spectacles at pop-up snapbots aka vending machines!

Now snapchat spectacles (versions 1 and 2) and the newest snapchat spectacles 3 are much easier to get hold of online. The original/version 1 is only available in black now but a lot more affordable than the snapchat glasses 3.

$109.99 for the black snapchat sunglasses on Amazon.

The latest upgrade is the snapchat spectacles 3 which capture 3D photos and videos, along with 3D effects and 3D video viewing. The spectacles even allow to invite a friend to experience it on YouTube VR. At $380 for the 3D glasses, they’re pricer that the snapchat spectacles 1 but so much cooler and the updated design is much more fashionable and low key.

The original Snapchat spectacles snapbot hunt

When I originally wrote this, the snapchat spectacles 1 had only been released the week before and Snapchat had made getting hold of a pair a mission. Forget finding them in stores! They were only available from vending machines whose pop-up locations were revealed at the last minute. Making it an ambitious adult treasure hunt!

When my husband and I decided to hunt the snapchat spectacles down from a snapbot mission, they’d only been out a week and Snapchat were making them super hard to get to make them more desirable! The Snapchat Spectacles Snapbot location we went to was off the grid and accessible only by Sundance helicopters.

I had people reaching out to me that were lost in the middle of the desert trying to find them that had found me through twitter using the #snapbot hashtag.

Snapbot Grand Canyon

When the Snapbots were located in cities the directions were clear and speed was the only important thing to get your hands on them before they ran out. However, this snapchat spectacles snapbot was in as remote a location as they come: In the Grand Canyon and only reachable by helicopter! Thankfully not private charter but via Sundance Helicopters.

Grand Canyon Snapchat Spectacles 1 Snapbot Adventure

I’ve used Sundance helicopters several times; for Grand Canyon trips and night flights over the Las Vegas Strip to see the lights and they’ve always been phenomenal. Being in a helicopter is such a wonderful and fast way to see things that you can’t from a car and go beyond roads.

This tour actually touched down besides the river in the Grand Canyon and included a boat tour down the river. Our informative and chatty tour guide even stopped so that we could take photos of this incredible location, in our snapchat spectacles of course!  I’ve flown over the Grand Canyon 4 times and it never fails to humble me and take my breath away. Snapchat glasses hunt or not, if you haven’t checked this off of your bucket list, do it!

Snapchat Glasses How to Use and Take Pictures With Snapchat Spectacles (1)

  1. Make sure the glasses are fully charged
  2. Press and release the button on the top left of the snapchat spectacles frame to take a 10 second video. A white light will appear on the inside of the frame to confirm that recordings started.
  3. Press again to extend the recording another 10 seconds (20 seconds), and again for a max total of 30 seconds
  4. To end your recording before the maximum 30 seconds press and hold the button for 2 seconds.
  5. Pair your snapchat sunglasses with your device to sync your footage to your snapchat app.

There’s a very prominent circular ring of LEDs that light up at the front of the spectacles when videos are being shot so you’re not the creepy person taking secret videos!

What to love about Snapchat Spectacles

  1. The Snapchat glasses case is also a charger. That bright yellow packaging is clever, doubling as a way to charge up the spectacles when not in use. You can also plug the charger straight into the glasses if you prefer to do it that way. A ring of lights on the glasses will show you that they’re charging. You can double tap the side at any time to check your battery charge.
  2. Snapchat spectacles are super fun and stylish to wear plus they come in different models (1, 2 and 3) and styles.

  3. The techie part: The 115 degree wide-angle camera on snapchat spectacles captures video in a circle so that when you view the video in the Snapchat app, you can look at it in horizontally or vertically or by continuing to spin your phone around in any orientation.

  4. The sound quality is surprisingly good.

10 Tips for Finding Snapbot Locations Successfully in rural areas:

  1. Originally you went to a map on snapchat (the maps no longer in existence) and checked for countdowns until the next reveal. Once the timer ran out the location was revealed.

  2. It may not be exactly on the map where it says it is and you can’t use any of the regular google map functions besides the zoom . Today’s appeared miles from the nearest road. I know some people went off roading and hiking as they didn’t know that helicopter was the only option.

  3. Leave on your snapchat spectacle search as soon as the location posts! They may not be there very long. We went to the Grand Canyon location and they were getting ready to pack up at 2pm.

  4. Once on the road, get your passenger to check the most recent hashtags to get a better idea of the exact location. I got lucky and found someone on twitter who helped me! Shout out to @chimpo_gaming for that!

  5. Search using all of these hashtags to help you: #snapbot #snapbotlocations #snapchatspectacles #spectacles

  6. Be prepared to spend money! The only way to reach the one in the Grand Canyon was via helicopter!

  7. Ask as many people as possible. It’s kept elusive on purpose.

  8. There may not be cell service where you are going so plan ahead.

  9. This may sound obvious, but make sure you have enough gas and supplies!

  10. Go out with a good attitude and be prepared not to get the spectacles. Best case scenario you get the snapchat spectacles and have an awesome road trip. Worse case you have a fun day out trying to accomplish something together.
