ZIIP Skincare Review: Which Collection Is Right for You?

ziip skincare review using ziip moisturizer

Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Eve Dawes

ZIIP skincare just launched, and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen from the brand before and the most excited I’ve been for a skincare launch! You know how much I love my ZIIP HALO microcurrent device, so when I heard they were launching a skincare line developed around the skin’s natural electrical activity, I jumped at the chance to try it. There are four collections, each targeting a different skin concern, from fine lines and blemishes to hydration and radiance. I’m focusing on Barrier Boost, ZIIP’s barrier boosting skincare collection which includes Refresh Serum and Repair Moisturizer. My skin is sensitive right now from doing at-home fractional laser treatments so I wanted to concentrate on my skin barrier repair since that’s my area of concern. So what makes ZIIP skincare different from the countless other serums and moisturizers already on the market? Do you need one of its microcurrent facial devices to use it? I’m breaking down the science, introducing all four collections, and sharing my experience with Barrier Boost, including how the products feel, how they fit into my skincare routine and whether they’re worth the money.

ZIIP Skincare Review: The Four Collections & My Barrier Boost Experience

ZIIP has launched skincare, and it’s very different in the best possible way, from what I was expecting. If you’ve followed my beauty reviews for a while, you’ll know I’ve been using ZIIP HALO microcurrent device for years and love it, and the new ZIIP skincare range follows a similar approach. Rather than creating more products to use with its devices, ZIIP has developed four skincare collections around the skin’s natural electrical activity. They not only considered which ingredients are effective but also how they’re formulated and delivered.

The four ZIIP skincare collections target different skin concerns, from wrinkles and blemishes to hydration and radiance. For my first ZIIP Skincare review, I’m starting with the Barrier Boost collection. I’m currently using the Tria FRX Skin Rejuvenating Laser, so ZIIP’s team recommended sticking with Barrier Boost while I’m completing my course rather than while my skin is more sensitive. Once I’ve finished my FRX course, I plan to explore some of the other ZIIP Skincare collections too. I personally can’t wait to get started with their Barrier Boost skincare collection. Here’s what makes ZIIP skincare different, what’s in each collection, what its clinical testing tells us and my experience with Barrier Boost.

What is ZIIP skincare and what makes it different?

ZIIP is known for its microcurrent facial devices, but its new skincare line doesn’t require a device at all (although, on a separate note, I highly recommend that if you’re looking to lift, sculpt and fade sun spots. If I had to pick just one ‘anti-aging’ skincare and beauty device it’d be that), ZIIP has developed a skincare line with what it calls ‘bioelectric formulation’, taking principles from their years of extensive electrical-device research and applying them to skincare.

I’m going to break this down as simply as possible but consider my mind blown, I’m so impressed with this new skincare tech! Your skin naturally has electrical activity, which plays a role in maintaining its protective barrier and repairing damage. Skincare ingredients also have chemical and electrical properties that can affect how they’re formulated and delivered. ZIIP’s approach is to consider those properties when developing its products, using technologies such as encapsulation and specialized ingredient carriers where appropriate.

In simpler terms, ZIIP skincare line looks beyond just what’s in a product to how the formula helps deliver those ingredients. It’s an interesting concept, and means that the actives in ZIIPs formulas are a lot more gentle than a lot of other skincare products in the market. The clinical test results are all based on measurable changes and are really impressive, so of course I jumped at the chance to try it.

The four ZIIP skincare collections

Each ZIIP skincare collection includes a serum and moisturizer designed to address a particular skin concern. There’s also a separate Reset Foaming Cleanser. You don’t need all four collections. The idea is to choose the pairing that addresses your main skin concerns.

What makes the formulations interesting is that each product combines a key active with what ZIIP calls a supercharged active. The key active targets your specific skin concern, while the supercharged active is designed to enhance its effects. Essentially, the ingredients share the workload, so ZIIP doesn’t have to rely on unnecessarily high concentrations to achieve results. It’s a really clever and unique approach, especially for anyone concerned about skin sensitivity like I am.

Here’s how those ingredients work together in each of the four collections.

1. ZIIP Pro Collagen: Fine lines, wrinkles and firmness

Pro Collagen is ZIIP’s anti-aging collection and the one I’m most excited to try, as it’s designed to target signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness. It includes Firm Serum and Bounce Moisturizer. This is the collection I’d normally have made a beeline for if I wasn’t currently doing my Tria FRX non-ablative fractional laser treatment course. It’s definitely the one I’m planning to try once I’ve finished, so stay tuned!

ZIIP Pro Collagen Firm Retinol Serum

  • Key active: 0.2% Retinol. A vitamin A derivative used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin texture.
  • Supercharged active: Biomimetic Growth Peptides. Plant-produced, growth-factor-inspired proteins designed to support skin renewal, firmness and elasticity alongside the retinol.

If you’ve read my skincare articles, you’ll know I’ve really gravitated towards products containing growth factors over the last couple of years. They’re ingredients I’ve become a huge believer in, particularly after seeing results from products I’ve used. The ZIIP skincare Pro Collagen Firm Retinol Serum also contains Cica PDRN, a plant-derived ingredient sourced from Centella asiatica, which ZIIP includes for additional skin-barrier and elasticity support.

ZIIP Pro Collagen Bounce Moisturizer

  • Key active: Encapsulated Collagen Peptide. A peptide delivered using liposome technology, designed to support the appearance of firmer, more elastic skin.
  • Supercharged active: Argireline® Amplified Hexapeptide. A peptide designed to target the appearance of expression lines, including forehead lines and crow’s feet.

The moisturizer also contains marine samphire bioactive, which ZIIP includes to support smoother-looking texture and radiance. The idea behind this pairing is to address visible signs of aging through complementary ingredients rather than relying on retinol alone. Because Firm Serum contains retinol, it isn’t part of my current FRX skincare routine. ZIIP recommends introducing it gradually, starting twice a week and building up to nightly use.

2. ZIIP Spot Control: Blemishes and oily skin

Spot Control is designed for blemish-prone skin, congestion and excess oil. The collection includes Clear Serum and Detox Moisturizer, combining ingredients that target clogged pores and blemishes with ingredients designed to help balance the skin.

This is the collection I’d look at if breakouts and oiliness were my main concerns rather than hydration and barrier support. In fact, I might even keep it on hand for my monthly hormonal breakouts which I’m currently just treating with the Spot treatment in the ZIIP HALO app to tackle it from all angles. I normally avoid spot control skincare as I find it dries my skin out too much. However, ZIIP Spot Control has a microbiome balancing supercharged active to help combat that. So I’m curious to see whether this could be a gentler option for my skin.

ZIIP Spot Control Clear Serum

  • Key active: 1.8% Encapsulated Salicylic Acid. A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) designed to exfoliate inside pores, helping address congestion, blemishes and excess oil.
  • Supercharged active: Microbiome-Balancing Dendriclear™. A specialized molecule designed to target blemish-associated bacteria while being more selective about the skin’s beneficial microbiome.

The formula also contains bioactive algae extract, which ZIIP includes to help support the skin’s microbial balance and manage excess oil without unnecessarily drying the skin.

ZIIP Spot Control Detox Moisturizer

  • Key active: Niacinamide. A form of vitamin B3 commonly used to support the skin barrier, improve uneven-looking tone and help regulate excess oil.
  • Supercharged active: Triple-Pathway Peptide. A peptide developed to target three concerns associated with blemish-prone skin: excess sebum, clogged or enlarged-looking pores, and inflammation.

There’s also a probiotic ferment complex designed to complement the blemish-focused formula.

What I find interesting about Spot Control is that it isn’t simply about using stronger exfoliating ingredients. ZIIP has paired the key actives with additional technologies intended to address blemishes while respecting the skin’s barrier and microbiome. Thank you ZIIP!

3. ZIIP Barrier Boost: Hydration, redness and skin-barrier support

This is the collection I’m currently testing while my skin is feeling particularly dry and sensitive. ZIIP Barrier Boost is designed for skin that needs additional hydration, comfort and barrier support, which is exactly what I’m looking for while doing my Tria FRX non-ablative fractional laser treatment course.

The collection includes Refresh Serum and Repair Moisturizer, and rather than introducing more exfoliating ingredients into my routine, my priority right now is keeping my skin comfortable, hydrated and supporting its protective barrier.

ZIIP Barrier Boost Refresh Serum

  • Key active: Tranexamic Acid. An ingredient used in skincare to target the appearance of uneven skin tone, dark spots and redness.
  • Supercharged active: Encapsulated Resveratrol. An antioxidant ingredient protected inside a sugar-based encapsulation system, designed to help maintain its stability and complement the serum’s brightening and soothing benefits.

The serum also contains hyaluronic acid to support hydration and help reduce moisture loss which I’m in much need of right now.

ZIIP Barrier Boost Repair Moisturizer

  • Key active: Bio-Identical Ceramides. A skin-identical lipid complex containing three ceramides, cholesterol and a fatty acid, designed to replenish the lipids that help maintain the skin’s protective barrier.
  • Supercharged active: Activated Moringa. A moringa seed extract that ZIIP says helps support the skin’s own protective mechanisms, particularly when dealing with redness, irritation and environmental stress.

The moisturizer also contains a magnesium PCA complex to help maintain hydration.

What I like about ZIIP Barrier Boost is that the serum and moisturizer have slightly different jobs. ZIIP Refresh Serum focuses on hydration, redness and uneven-looking skin tone, while ZIIP Repair Moisturizer is more about replenishing the skin’s protective lipids and helping keep moisture in.

My experience with ZIIP Barrier Boost so far

I love how quickly and easily both of these ZIIP skincare products absorb, and my skin felt so much more comfortable from the first use. By the following morning, the dry patch on my forehead was pretty much gone and my skin was so much less red.

Another thing I really appreciate is how well they work under makeup. Sometimes richer serums and moisturizers can pill, but I’ve had no issues with either of these. They both layer beautifully under my makeup, which makes them really easy to incorporate into my morning skincare routine.

I’ll continue updating this article as I test more of the ZIIP skincare line, so be sure to subscribe if you don’t want to miss those updates.

4. ZIIP Glass Skin: Radiance and smoother-looking texture

ZIIP Glass Skin is designed for dullness, uneven texture and a more luminous complexion. It includes Glow Serum and Illuminate Moisturizer. Unlike Barrier Boost, which is focused on hydration and skin-barrier support, Glass Skin is more about refining texture and improving radiance.

ZIIP Glass Skin AHA & PHA Glow Serum

  • Key active: 3% Gentle Peeling Complex (AHA/PHA/DCA). A blend of citric acid, gluconolactone and a dicarboxylic acid, designed to gently exfoliate, smooth uneven texture and improve the appearance of dull skin.
  • Supercharged active: Lectroglaze™. A ferment-based ingredient that ZIIP says supports beneficial skin bacteria and helps protect against oxidative stress while improving the appearance of luminosity.

Glow Serum also contains gold-stabilized vitamin C and glutathione, included to support a more even-looking complexion and help maintain vitamin C stability.

ZIIP Glass Skin Illuminate Antioxidant Moisturizer

  • Key active: Encapsulated Apple Complex. An upcycled apple extract delivered using vesicle-based technology, designed to support gentle skin renewal, brightness and a more even-looking complexion.
  • Supercharged active: Charged Multi-Mineral Complex. A combination of magnesium, zinc and copper designed to support the skin’s energy-related processes and improve the appearance of radiance.

The moisturizer also contains a multi-lifting botanical complex and pomegranate enzymes for additional smoothing and exfoliating benefits.

Glass Skin is the collection I’d consider when improving radiance and texture is the priority. However, because I’m currently doing my Tria FRX treatments, I’m starting with Barrier Boost rather than introducing additional exfoliating ingredients.

Now that I’ve learned more about all four ZIIP Skincare collections, I kind of want them all! My skin seems to want something different every other week, let alone every season, so I can actually see myself using all four at different times.

My ZIIP Barrier Boost review

I decided to start with ZIIP Barrier Boost’s Refresh Serum and Repair Moisturizer rather than try all four collections at once. I wanted to give the products a proper chance and see how my skin responded without throwing a whole load of new ingredients into my routine.

ZIIP Refresh Serum review

First things first, a little goes a long way with this serum! It’s lightweight, absorbs quickly and leaves a slightly sticky feeling at first, but that disappears as soon as I apply ZIIP Repair Moisturizer over the top.

I can’t tell you whether it’s the serum, moisturizer or combination of the two that’s responsible, but my skin definitely feels more comfortable and hydrated since I started using them. And thankfully, they both play beautifully under makeup with zero pilling.

I’ll keep updating this ZIIP skincare review as I use them for longer, particularly if I notice any changes in redness or pigmentation.

ZIIP Refresh Serum clinical trial results

Now, this is where things get interesting. ZIIP commissioned Eurofins to test Refresh Serum on 20 participants over eight weeks.

What I appreciate about these results is that they’re based on actual measurements rather than just asking people whether they think their skin looks better. You know those claims like “90% of people felt their skin was more hydrated”? Those can be useful, but they’re not the same as measuring a change in skin hydration.

Here’s what the study found:

  • 44.6% increase in skin hydration.
  • 23.6% reduction in water loss through the skin.
  • 7.3% reduction in visible redness.
  • 6.6% increase in skin radiance.

Those percentages might not all sound huge, but remember, these are measured changes rather than people’s opinions.

It’s worth noting that this was a small study, with just 20 participants, and the results were compared with their starting measurements rather than a separate placebo group. Still, I’m interested to see how my own results compare over time.

ZIIP Repair Moisturizer review

This is the product I apply straight after Refresh Serum, and I love how quickly it absorbs without feeling heavy or greasy. As I mentioned earlier, the two work really well together. My skin feels more comfortable and hydrated, and I haven’t had any issues with pilling under makeup, which is always a bonus.

ZIIP also references ingredient-level research on the ceramides and activated moringa in this moisturizer. That’s interesting, although it’s not the same as clinical testing on the finished product, so I wouldn’t treat those findings as proof of what the moisturizer itself can achieve.

My ZIIP Barrier Boost results and verdict

So far, I’m really enjoying this ZIIP skincare duo. My skin felt more comfortable from the first use, and by the following morning, the dry patch on my forehead had pretty much disappeared and my skin was noticeably less red.

I’m not going to pretend I can tell you which product deserves the credit, because I’ve been using them together. But as a pairing, they’ve made a really good first impression.

I’ll keep updating this section as I use them for longer, including any changes in redness, pigmentation and hydration, plus before-and-after photos so you can see the results for yourself.

Do you need a ZIIP device to use the skincare?

No, this is a standalone skincare range, not another collection of conductive gels. You can use the serums and moisturizers without owning a ZIIP device. If you do use the ZIIP Halo, ZIIP recommends thoroughly cleansing away the conductive gel before applying your skincare.

Can you mix and match the four ZIIP skincare collections?

Yes. Although the serums and moisturizers are designed as complementary pairs, ZIIP says you can mix products from different collections to create a custom blend to meet your skincare concerns or incorporate individual products into your existing routine.

Personally, I prefer introducing one new product at a time, especially when my skin is feeling sensitive. It makes it much easier to identify what’s working and what might be causing irritation. I’d also be cautious about combining several active serums, particularly retinol and exfoliating acids.

Is ZIIP skincare worth it?

What interests me most is ZIIP’s approach to formulation and the fact that they’ve commissioned testing on the finished serums. But skincare is personal, and an impressive ingredient list or clinical results don’t automatically mean a product will be right for your skin. That’s where the four collections make sense to me: each targets different skin concerns, giving you options without making the range feel overwhelming.

For me, Barrier Boost is the collection that makes the most sense to try first because hydration and skin-barrier support are my current priorities.

I’ll update this review with my experience after testing both products properly, including what I liked, what I didn’t and whether I think they’re worth the money.

ZIIP skincare FAQs

Does ZIIP skincare use electricity?

No. The products don’t deliver electrical currents to your face. ZIIP uses principles relating to the skin’s natural electrical activity as part of its formulation approach.

Is ZIIP skincare the same as its conductive gels?

No. The new serums and moisturizers are standalone skincare products. You don’t need a ZIIP device to use them.

Has ZIIP skincare been clinically tested?

Yes, ZIIP commissioned Eurofins to conduct four studies involving 80 participants in total, with 20 people testing each serum. ZIIP Clear Serum, Refresh Serum and Glow Serum were tested over eight weeks, while Firm Serum was tested over twelve. The studies used instruments to measure changes in the skin, rather than relying solely on participants’ opinions. While I appreciate having actual measurements to consider, I’ll always try to distinguish a brand’s clinical findings from my own experience to be able to share with you.

Which ZIIP skincare collection is for sensitive skin?

Barrier Boost is the collection designed around hydration, redness and skin-barrier support. However, that doesn’t mean every product will suit every sensitive skin type, particularly immediately after an aesthetic treatment.

Can I use ZIIP skincare with my existing products?

According to ZIIP, yes. You can use individual products or combine collections, although it’s worth checking for overlapping active ingredients and introducing new products gradually.

Is ZIIP skincare fragrance-free?

ZIIP says it doesn’t add fragrance to its formulas. Any natural scent comes from the ingredients themselves.

Which ZIIP skincare collection am I testing?

I’m testing Barrier Boost, which includes Refresh Serum and Repair Moisturizer. I’ll be updating this article with my own photographs and results once I’ve used them long enough to give a meaningful verdict.

Is there a ZIIP skincare discount code?

Yes, code EVAD gets you 10% off sitewide.
