Winter fashion trends 2026-2027 are giving us a little bit of everything: polished tailoring, romantic details, rich textures and statement outerwear, along with some genuinely practical cold-weather pieces. After seasons dominated by understated dressing and quiet luxury, Fall/Winter 2026 feels noticeably more expressive without abandoning the classic, wearable pieces we actually want in our closets.

This season, designers are playing with contrasts. Think fitted tailoring with oversized coats, delicate lace with leather, sleek black looks alongside saturated purple, and simple wardrobe staples elevated with velvet, jacquard, embellishment and texture. Vogue highlighted everything from shearling outerwear and romantic dressing to body-skimming silhouettes on the FW26 runways, while skirt suits, statement tights and thigh-high boots are also shaping the season.

For me, the best winter trends are always the ones that translate easily from the runway into real life. You don’t need an entirely new wardrobe: a great coat, a pair of statement tights, updated tailoring or one rich texture can make pieces you already own feel current again.

Which Winter fashion trends am I wearing? For Fall-Winter 2026-2027, the trends I’m most excited to wear are velvet, statement tights, leather gloves and the return of more fitted, feminine silhouettes. I love that this season feels polished and glamorous without being overly formal, and these are all trends that are easy to work into pieces I already own.

These women’s winter trends are easy to work into your winter wardrobe and outfits. From trends that work for everyday and elegant pieces that I can wait to wear for nights out. As much as I love my cozy loungewear for working from home, I’m excited for all of the structured, glamorous styles this Winter. As well as to get my turtlenecks, pencil skirts and slingback heels back in rotation.

The beauty of women’s winter fashion trends for 2026 is that a lot of these trends are pieces you probably already have in your closet like tights, velvet, and leather gloves. I’m not a fan of cold weather, but these are looks I can’t wait for it to be cool enough to wear.

Keep reading to learn more about each Winter 2026-2027 fashion trend, the biggest women’s trends and how to wear them in real life. It’s not about being a slave to fashion trends or what to wear and what not to wear but finding a few key fashion trends you like and then making them your own. To express who you are on the inside or how you’re feeling that day on the outside.

1. Shearling, faux fur and statement collars

If there’s one winter fashion trend that actually makes sense for freezing temperatures, it’s this one. Shearling was all over the Fall/Winter 2026 runways, with oversized, face-framing collars making coats feel as much like a statement piece as a practical layer. Vogue called out shearling as one of the season’s major cold-weather stories, while faux-fur coats, stoles and plush accessories are also continuing into winter.

For everyday wear, this is an easy one. Look for a faux-fur coat, shearling-trim jacket or oversized collar that does all of the styling work for you. Keep the rest of the outfit streamlined with fitted pants, tights or a simple knit.

2. Purple is the color of Winter 2026

Move over burgundy and chocolate brown. Purple is one of the strongest color stories for Fall/Winter 2026, particularly deep royal and violet shades. Who What Wear spotted it across Celine, Chloé, Ferragamo, Loewe, Mugler and Tory Burch, while Net-a-Porter is backing both purple and chartreuse as important statement colors for the season.

The easiest way to wear it is as one statement piece rather than automatically committing to head-to-toe purple. Try a purple knit, coat, dress, tights or bag with black, grey or chocolate brown, or go monochromatic if you want the full runway effect.

3. Modern skirt suits

The ladylike skirt suit isn’t going anywhere, but the Winter 2026 version feels less retro costume and more modern power dressing. Designers played with everything from sleek pencil skirts and collarless jackets to peplums, checked wool and body-skimming silhouettes. Vogue describes the broader direction as the “Updated Lady,” while Who What Wear calls skirt suits one of FW26’s major trends.

For real life, I love this trend because you can wear the pieces together for a polished look or split them up. Style the jacket with jeans or tailored pants, then wear the skirt with a fitted knit, button-down or boots.

4. Romantic ruffles and lace

Romantic dressing is getting darker and more dramatic for winter. Ruffles, lace, bows, draping and historically inspired details appeared throughout the FW26 collections, with ELLE highlighting a grittier evolution of the romantic aesthetic at Chloé, Dior, Simone Rocha and Fendi.

You don’t need to dress like you’ve wandered out of Wuthering Heights to make this work IRL. A lace blouse, ruffled neckline, romantic dress or even lace tights gives a simple winter outfit the same feeling without becoming costume-y.

5. Sheer and translucent layers

Sheer dressing has carried into Winter 2026, but this season it’s more about clever layering than wearing next to nothing. Designers layered mesh, lace and translucent fabrics over or underneath more substantial pieces, which makes the trend surprisingly wearable in colder weather. Who What Wear describes the direction as a more modest take on transparency, seen at Prada, Miu Miu, Tom Ford, The Row and Victoria Beckham.

Layer a sheer dress over a fitted bodysuit or turtleneck, wear a transparent blouse with a blazer, or add sheer tights beneath an otherwise covered-up outfit.

6. Velvet

Velvet is one of those fabrics that instantly makes sense once winter and party season arrive, and it has a particularly strong runway presence this year. ELLE highlighted velvet at Conner Ives, Lanvin, Alaïa and Fforme for the later months of the Fall/Winter 2026 season.

A velvet dress is the obvious option for holiday parties, but velvet pants, skirts, blazers and even accessories are an easy way to introduce the texture without going full eveningwear.

7. Jacquard, brocade and modern heirlooms

One of my favorite shifts this season is away from clothes that are deliberately anonymous and toward pieces that actually look special. Brocade, jacquard, embroidery and beadwork are giving Fall/Winter 2026 fashion a richer, almost collectible quality. Who What Wear spotted this “modern heirloom” direction at Dior, Valentino and other major designers, while ELLE highlighted jacquard at Tory Burch, McQueen, Conner Ives, Dior and Givenchy.

This is one of those trends where less can be more. Pair an ornate jacket or jacquard skirt with something incredibly simple rather than styling the entire outfit like occasionwear.

8. Fitted tailoring and shrunken silhouettes

Oversized everything finally has some competition and as a petite, I’m grateful for the shift. Fall/Winter 2026 saw a noticeable move toward more fitted, body-skimming proportions, including slimmer trousers, nipped-in jackets and coats cut much closer to the body. Who What Wear noted the return of strong-shouldered shrunken blazers and slim ’90s-inspired silhouettes, while Vogue also identified the shift toward smaller, closer-to-the-body proportions.

If you’ve been drowning in oversized blazers for the last few years, this is an easy wardrobe refresh. A fitted blazer with straight or slim trousers gives a much sharper silhouette without feeling overly trend driven. My brown satin Gucci suit will definitely be going back into rotation.

9. Statement tights

Tights aren’t just the practical layer hiding underneath your winter outfit this year. They’re part of the outfit. Color, pattern, lace and opaque finishes all featured in Fall/Winter 2026 styling, with Net-a-Porter specifically calling tights one of the season’s important styling tools.

If colorful tights feel like too much, sheer black or lace is the easiest way to wear the trend and instantly makes a mini dress, skirt suit or oversized coat feel more polished.

10. Thigh-high boots

I’ve always loved thigh-high boots for their look and practicality so I’m excited to see that thigh-high boots are back in a major way for Winter 2026. This is one of the trends that makes the most sense once temperatures drop. Net-a-Porter identified extremely high thigh-high boots as one of FW26’s standout accessories, while knee-high boots were also prominent throughout runway styling.

Wear them with mini skirts and tights, underneath midi skirts or with fitted pants tucked in. If thigh-highs aren’t your thing, a sleek knee-high boot gives a similar effect with less commitment.

11. Tuxedo dressing

The tuxedo is having another fashion moment, but this isn’t about wearing a literal men’s suit. Saint Laurent revisited its iconic Le Smoking, while tuxedo jackets, bow ties, cummerbunds, satin lapels and dress-shirt details appeared at The Row, Khaite, McQueen, Michael Kors and Altuzarra.

For winter parties, I love this as an alternative to another cocktail dress. A fitted tuxedo blazer with tailored pants and heels is sexy, timeless and considerably warmer.

12. Croc-embossed leather

Rather than treating “leather” as a trend every winter, this year I’d get more specific. Croc-embossed leather is one of the fresher iterations for Fall/Winter 2026, appearing across jackets, skirts and accessories at designers including Khaite, Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta and Gucci.

A croc-effect bag, heel or boot is the easiest way to wear it, while a jacket or pencil skirt makes more of a statement.

13. Leather gloves

Gloves have been gaining momentum for several seasons and they’re still relevant for Winter 2026. Leather gloves appeared among Who What Wear’s major FW26 accessory trends, while Net-a-Porter also highlighted gloves and exaggerated proportions within the season’s accessories.

Long opera-style gloves still work beautifully for evening, but sleek wrist-length leather gloves are an easier everyday update. Either way, they add that polished finishing touch that can make even a basic winter coat feel more considered.

14. Mixed textures and prints

This might be one of the easiest trends to recreate using clothes you already own. Instead of matching everything perfectly, designers are mixing velvet with leather, jacquard with plaid and florals with satin and lace to create more depth. Net-a-Porter calls out texture and pattern mixing as one of the defining directions in its Fall/Winter 2026 buy.

Start with two textures rather than five: a velvet skirt with a cashmere knit, faux fur with leather, or lace tights with a wool skirt. It feels much more intentional and is considerably easier to pull off than recreating a runway look head to toe.

Winter 2026 micro trend: Argyle knit

Argyle is sticking around for another winter, particularly as part of the season’s preppy styling. For the most current take, skip anything that feels overly “Grandpa” and style an argyle sweater with a tailored mini, sheer tights and polished shoes or boots.

I’ll keep updating this post throughout the season as new styles arrive and others sell out.
