Winter fashion trends 2024 for women are moving away from casual pieces and back towards more classic, chic heritage styles that are quintessential to the fashion houses. With lots of 1950’s inspired cocktail dresses, pencil skirts, turtlenecks and flattering nipped in blazers taking center stage and wider leg pants and oversized jackets on hiatus. There’s lots of really elegant fall winter 2024 fashion trends for ladies around this season. Altuzarra brought back the cigarette pants but in a more contemporary way. Women’s winter outfits included swaddling, artful layering and more structured designs than the slouchier styles we’ve seen from designers over the last few years.
At Balmain, Olivier Rousteing also went back to the archives with a classic, chic but modern aesthetic I can’t get enough of. Think sleek tailoring, feminine fitted off the shoulder styles, big bows, polka dots, chandelier earrings, ladylike gloves and large hats in a predominantly black and white palette.
However, this Winter, it’s not just about the clothing but the accessories to instantly update your look and add your personality to your outfits. So grab your old brooches and pins and accessorize away.

These 15 women’s winter trends are easy to work into your winter wardrobe and outfits. From trends that work for everyday and elegant pieces that I can wait to wear for nights out. As much as I love my cozy loungewear for working from home, I’m excited for all of the structured, glamorous styles this Winter. As well as to get my turtlenecks, pencil skirts and court shoes back in rotation.

The beauty of women’s winter fashion trends for 2024 is that a lot of these trends are pieces you already have in your closet like tights, turtlenecks and court shoes and can be combined. E.g. red tights under a funnel neck coat with court shoes.
A lot of the winter fashion 2024 for ladies are also some of the most glamorous, romantic and chic that they’ve been in a while. I’m not a fan of cold weather but these are looks I can’t wait for it to be cool enough to wear.

1. Brooches and pins
Probably one of the most affordable ways to instantly update any of your winter outfits. Forget costume jewelry and think more modern, sculptural styles pinned to your lapel. Level up and consider stacking them too, rather than just wearing one. This is one winter fashion trend to have fun experimenting with and really make your own.
2. Hoisiery Winter Fashion 2024
Tights are back this year to help create a head to toe lady like look. Pretty much all colors of tights, including classic black made it onto the runway. So embrace this practical trend anyway you want. Even layering them under pants.
Red tights especially were everywhere for Fall Winter 2024. It was in fashion last year and remains prominent this Fall/Winter too. As seen at Isabel Marant, Gucci, and Saks Potts. While it might not be original as a winter color, it’s a pretty seasonal classic that’s empowering and that I adore.
The sexiest way to embrace the hoisiery/tights Winter 2024 trend is with a sexy lace or sheer style. Like the seductive lace Wolford tights above.
3. Winter fashion 2024 for ladies | 1950’s couture
1950’s dresses ruled the Fall Winter 2024 runways. If you love classic style and a snatched waist, this Winter fashion 2024 for ladies trend is definitely for you. It’s such an elegant look. Embrace this pin up style with a oversized petticoat style dress and belt it for extra waist definition. As seen at Dior, Bottega Veneta and Balmain.
4. Classic Women’s Winter Fashion Trends 2024 | Pencil skirts
Another practical Winter 2024 fashion trend for your work wardrobe is the pencil skirt. It’s been a while since we’ve seen these trending but all lengths are back in style. Midi’s were seen at Miu Miu’s, mini’s at Loewe’s and maxi’s at Marni.
Layer over tights, with a crisp button down or turtleneck and add a brooch to check off so many of this seasons trends. Layer up with a funnel neck jacket, poncho and long gloves and you’re not only chic but warm. I’m saving this outfit below for outfit inspiration.

You can never go wrong with these as they’re such a classic and easy to layer piece. When styling them for winter 2024 look to Katharine Hepburn for inspiration. It’s not about creating a workwear look but embracing the American sportswear aesthetic.

Another classic style that works with cigarette pants, pencil skirts and over button down shirts, all also in style for Fall/Winter 2024/2025. As seen at Bottega Veneta fashion show. It’s a preppy, practical trend that’s so easy to wear in real life.
It doesn’t have to be just crewneck tops. Crewneck sweater dresses are just as in style for Winter 2024.
7. Cigarette pants Winter Fashion 2024
Cigarette pants haven’t seen the light of day for a while either and since I own a pair of satin Gucci pants I can’t wait to get them back out. As seen at Khaite, Altuzarra, Jil Sander, and Del Core. For this Winter fashion trend think pants suits or a funnel neck coat and play with proportions.
8. Capes and ponchos | Cozy Fall winter 2024 fashion trends
I’m always cold, so any excuse to bundle up in a cozy style I’m totally for. Whether it’s swaddling yourself in a scarf-coat, shawl wrap, poncho or cape, they’re a practical winter trend that actually makes sense.
For the most chic look for Winter 2024 think luxurious, super soft and warm fabrics and recreate the chic looks seen at Toteme, Chloé, Brandon Maxwell, Bottega Veneta, Carven, Victoria Beckham, Proenza Schouler, Schiaparelli, Tod’s, Marni, and Khaite.

A classic winter neckline that’s back in fashion for 2024. Think less chunky this year and more streamlined layering pieces. The beauty of this trend is that you probably already have it in your closet and any color goes.

One shape that kept showing up over and over again on this Fall/Winter’s runway shows was funnel-neck silhouettes. As seen at Burberry, Stella McCartney, Chloé fall/winter 2024 collections in all varieties of materials. So find one that works best for the climate you live in.
12. Hourglass tailored blazers | Winter fashion 2024 for ladies
I could never get into the sloppy oversized clothing trend. It’s unflattering and looks like you can’t be bothered. Whereas hourglass shapes, rounded shoulders and classic tailoring will always be more timeless, flattering and chic. As seen at Del Core, Jil Sander, Bottega Veneta and Toteme.

I have so many court shoes in my closet gathering dust as they haven’t really been in style for a while. Classic yes, but a trend, not so much until now and with good reason. They don’t even have to be towering stiletto heels, kitten heels and flats are back in style too. Their elegant silhouette lends itself so well to other sophisticated winter trends like pencil skirts and cigarette pants.
