Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo is already being talked about as one of the best hotels in Labuan Bajo, and after spending 2 nights there ourselves, it’s easy to understand why. This newly opened, beachfront property has earned comparisons to a Maldives style escape, just in Flores, Indonesia instead, and it includes a private jetty that turned our Komodo National Park day trip into something far more seamless than a standard tour booking. So if you’re looking for the best 5 star, luxury hotel in Labuan Bajo keep reading this Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo review. I’m sharing our experience from the room type to amenities, dining and service.

Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo Review: Overview

Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo is a five-star luxury hotel in Labuan Bajo in Flores Indonesia and the perfect hotel to stay at if you’re visiting Komodo National Park. It was our favorite hotel of our Indonesia trip, with airy interiors that complemented the location, 2 infinity pools, an extensive cocktail list and Uni Floating Beach Club. There are almost too many amenities and features to mention but a few include:

  • Fitness center
  • 2 outdoor pools
  • An indoor pool
  • Spa services
  • Marina
  • Massage/treatment rooms with glass floor treatment rooms
  • Outdoor entertainment area
  • Walkway to water
  • Free Wifi
  • Gym
  • Buffet breakfast (surcharge) each morning 7:00 AM–10:00 AM
  • 3 restaurants
  • 2 bars/lounges
  • Beach bar
  • Swim-up bar
  • Coffee shop
  • Private dining
  • 24-hour room service

Our room: Grand Premier Ocean View

We booked the Grand Premier Ocean View room for our 2 night stay, a standard hotel room rather than one of the resort’s overwater villas. If we were staying longer we probably would’ve booked the overwater bungalows but the Ocean View King Bed room more than exceeded our expectations.

This 55m² room feels modern, elegant, bright and airy and was spotless and these sweeping views! The room layout is so well thought out. With the King bed facing the window, the bath being by the window to enjoy the view versus being in the bathroom, the sitting area and wide balcony. The bed was really comfortable the room was really quiet. All things I appreciate when trying to get a good nights sleep before an early start to see the Komodo Dragons.

One cool feature was the sliding wall separator between the bathroom and bedroom which meant you could open it to see the view or close it for privacy. There was also a separate vanity area in the bedroom but I didn’t love the lighting there.

  • Free toiletries
  • Coffee Maker
  • Mini Fridge
  • Table and 2 chairs
  • Hair dryer
  • Shower and Bath
  • Robes and Slippers
  • Towels
  • Air Conditioning

Booking the Komodo Island tour directly through Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo

Booking our Komodo tour directly through Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo made a real difference. We’d researched several tours but this one departed the latest and we really didn’t want to be getting up at 4am on vacation. Breakfast was delivered to our room before departure since the restaurant wasn’t yet open which also saved us time.

Conveniently, the Komodo Island tour left straight from the resort’s private jetty on their premium speedboat, no driving required, which meant a later, more relaxed start than most other tours leaving from the main harbor. From the jetty, you stop briefly at the port so the crew can scan you into the National Park system, since there are strict daily visitor limits, before continuing on to Rinca Island. I’ll do a dedicated article for the Komodo National Park tour we booked, spoiler alert, we did see the Komodo Dragons.

Dining at Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo

The breakfast buffet was a genuine highlight, with a wide enough spread to represent a real range of nationalities and cultures, which made a difference for a luxury hotel attracting such an international guest mix.

Layar Restaurant is where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. Lunch by the pool here with the sweeping sea views was another favorite. Don’t miss sunset cocktails here. The sunset in Flores, Indonesia is one of the most beautiful we’ve experienced and so early (around 5:30pm) that you have time to do this before dinner.

The Kliff Bistro is open from 15:00-23:00 and offers Italian, Japanese, and Tapas food. It’s popular with both hotel and non-hotel guests so definitely make a reservation. Like pretty much all of the property, it has stunning views, the food was beautifully presented and the service was wonderful. However, we will say they were a little light on the protein. The seafood pasta as good as the sauce tasted had exactly one shrimp and 2 scallops which doesn’t exactly cut it.

Katamaran Komodo Pools

We used all of the resort’s pools during our stay and enjoyed every one of them for different reasons. The outdoor pool on the ground floor was beautifully shaded with comfortable lounge beds, a pool bar, coffee bar and ice cream.

The infinity pool with cabanas on the jetty was the liveliest of all the pools and gave you direct access to the sea and sand bars. The infinity pool in the main hotel building is where you want to be for lunch and sunset. Those views are hard to beat.

We didn’t try the spa or any of the kids’ facilities, so we can’t speak to those personally.

Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo Review: Our honest verdict

Ranked among the best hotels in Labuan Bajo, Katamaran Hotel & Resort Komodo stood out for us, and our biggest regret is not booking more nights here. Between the seamless private jetty departure for our Komodo tour, the standout breakfast buffet, the clean, modern rooms, amenities, cocktail list, and the pools throughout the resort, it’s easy to see why this property is already earning a reputation as one of the better Labuan Bajo hotels available right now. I highly recommend booking well in advance.
