Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Review | Know Before You Buy

spanx faux leather leggings

Last Updated on October 30, 2022 by Eve Dawes

Spanx faux leather leggings are all over this blog. They’re my go to leggings in Fall & Winter more than denim as I find them way more comfortable and they take up less room in my luggage. Mine have lasted me years and since it’s getting into legging season again I figured I’d share my thoughts in this full Spanx review. I’m sharing everything I think you need to know about the faux leather and faux patent leggings before you buy. Including sizing, the best faux leather legging styles for their features and style, outfit ideas, and sale finds.

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings Review

Spanx faux leather leggings are one of the most popular leggings. I don’t think I have a friend that doesn’t own at least one pair. It’s not just because they’re flattering and supportive but their styles are actually cute and fashion forward as far as leggings go.

They also don’t look like Spanx or support leggings and are incredibly comfortable. One of the things I love the most about Spanx patent leggings is that they don’t have a center-seam which means no camel-toe! So you can actually wear them with a shorter length top without worrying about how they’re sitting.

Look & quality

They look surprisingly like leather, especially Spanx faux patent leather leggings. They don’t look exactly like my leather pants but that’s more to do with their skintight fit than the material. Most of the styles are over $100 but you honestly get what you pay for with these and mine have lasted me for years.

I’ve never had an issue with seams splitting or uneven coverage either. Although as with all leggings you will need a thong unless VPL’s a look you’re going for.

Spanx faux leather leggings feel

Obviously they’re not as soft as cotton lycra leggings but I find them super comfy, especially as they don’t have a center seam which is why I wear them more often than jeans for the day.

Sizing

I find they run true to size but are snug which is how you want Spanx to be able to get the most benefit out of their core support technology. They also come in 3 lengths petite, regular and tall. More on that below.

Care

I’m really bad about following care instructions and just throw mine in the eco-warm dark wash and air dry. However, Spanx recommends machine washing on a cold, gentle cycle inside out. Then laying them flat to dry. Another benefit is that they don’t need (can can’t be) ironed.

How do Spanx faux leather leggings they compare to Commando?

I have never owned Commando leggings but am tempted to be able to do a comparison and because they’re supposed to be warmer. We go to Oregon every Fall and I’m always cold. Fashion Jackson does a good comparison.

How do Spanx fit?

I find my regular size XS is snug but that’s the whole point of Spanx, to smooth and be flattering with their hidden core shaping technology. If you’re inbetween sizes they recommend sizing up. They have petite, regular and tall lengths but even though they recommend petite to people under 5″4″ I go with the regular length as I have a 31″ inseam.

  • Petite length: 25″(Recommended for 5’4″ and under).
  • Regular: 27″(Recommended for 5’5″ – 5’8″).
  • Tall: 30″(Recommended for 5’9″ and taller).

Fit Tip: These leggings may feel tight when you first put them on, but don’t worry, they will form to your body. We promise, they’re worth the SPANX shimmy!

I’m biased towards Spanx faux leather leggings with some detailing like the moto or quilted styles as it makes them look less like leggings. I also love their high waisted faux suede leggings and patent leather styles as they look more like pants than leggings. They also have supportive maternity leggings for Mamas to be.

Spanx Sale

Spanx often has sales and a sale section but they rarely put their faux leather leggings or patent leather leggings on sale. They just had a 24 hour flash sale that I shared here so bookmark this page as I’ll always update it whenever they have a good sale.

I just ordered the quilted black Spanx faux leather leggings during their flash sale for under $60 including tax and free shipping. So I’ll add pics and a review of those as soon as they come in

There’s lots of colors in the Spanx sale besides black including brown and wine. As well as a pair of bike shorts which I’m tempted by as they’re such a closet staple.
