dr diamond metacine review instafacial

Last Updated on September 21, 2025 by Eve Dawes

Does Dr Jason Diamond’s Metacine Instafacial live up to it’s anti-aging skincare promises as a luxury skincare routine that defies time?

Dr Diamond’s Metacine collection is a ever evolving luxury skincare routine but does it work? At this price point you’ve got to hope the Metacine Plasma growth factor serum, Infusion, Emulsion retinoid night cream & HYDR/O HYDR/O Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier would give dramatic results. After all, it’s formulated by top Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr Jason Diamond and inspired by his in-office procedure, the Diamond InstaFacial. The famous Instafacial features a series of lasers & PRP micro needling and the Metacine Instafacial is designed to give you similar results at home. Or at least the best we can hope for without having professional lasers and microneedling machines at home! It’s a lot to fork out so here’s an honest review on the plasma, infusion, emulsion, new HYDR/O, how to use them, tips, benefits, before and after photos, results and whether I think it’s worth it or not in this Dr Diamond’s Metacine review.

I updated this in February 2025 when they added a 3rd product and again in September 2025 as they added more products to the collection. This Dr Diamond’s Metacine review contains affiliate links which do not affect the price in any way.

Dr Diamond’s Metacine Instafacial collection review

Who is Dr. Jason Diamond

Dr. Jason Diamond is the famous plastic surgeon and facial specialist whose celebrity clients include Katy Perry, the Kardashians and Chrissy Teigen. Dr. Jason Diamond is renowned for his facial surgeries and  Diamond InstaFacial, the price of which varies depending on what treatments are necessary and isn’t listed, but you can expect to be eye watering. Luckily Dr. Diamond’s Metacine is inspired by his Diamond Instafacial and designed to give us similar results for a lot less at home.

What is the Metacine Instafacial Collection

Dr Diamonds Metacine is the pricey, what was a two-step luxury skincare system that’s now a 4 step system, you’ve probably seen all over Instagram. Formulated with most state of the art, high tech ingredients on the forefront of skincare science. Metacine’s ingredients are touted to mimic our body’s own cell signaling molecules to generate collagen, elastin & hyaluronic acid production but does it work?

Metacine plasma mimics what’s used in his Instafacial and has human growth factors. The emulsion is touted as laser treatment in a bottle. It exfoliates with a unique retinoid that is safe to use all year even on sensitive skin (with no irritation). The Instafacial Infusion serum, designed to firm, lift and tighten and HYDR/O Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier is the latest product to join the line up; read my thoughts on that below.

Is Dr Jason Diamond’s Beverly Hills skincare worth it?

Firstly let’s look at the ingredients which are the main reason for it’s high price point. The Instafacial Collection is a state of the art 4-step system formulated with 31 bioactive ingredients in the Plasma and Emulsion designed to accelerate skin rejuvenation, support collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production to visibly smooth, lift and firm for a tighter, more youthful look with clinically proven results.

Their clinical trials show:

  • 91% Improvement in crow’s feet wrinkles
  • 77% Improvement in under-eye elasticity
  • 91% Smoother & more refined skin texture
  • 82% Healthier & more youthful skin
  • 91% Firmer & lifted skin
  • 82% More luminous & radiant skin

That’s all well and good in theory but let’s look at the results.

Dr Diamond's Metacine Instafacial Infusion

Step 1 Dr. Diamond’s Metacine InstaFacial Collection review | Dr. Diamond Metacine Plasma $200

Dr Diamond’s Metacine Instafacial Plasma mimics what’s used in Dr. Diamond’s Instafacial and has 5 bioengineered, bioidentical human growth factors. These are designed to simulate the effect of platelet-rich plasma to support skin repair and rejuvenation by turning on production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

It also has potent anti-inflammatory peptides that are supposed to function similarly to Botox, diminishing the look of expression lines & possibly prolonging the effects of Botox, their words not mine, and support wound healing.

It can also be used in place of vitamin C but I don’t personally normally use Vitamin C.

Step 2 Metacine Instafacial Infusion Biomimetic Microcollagen Matrix $350

Metacine Instafacial Infusion Biomimetic Microcollagen Matrix was designed as the ultimate science-backed solution for gravity-defying skin. This lightweight creamy gel collagen treatment is step 2 in the InstaFacial® Collection. Formulated with a proprietary matrix of three types of bioengineered, human-identical microcollagen, engineered in a lab to be human-identical to make it more stable, consistent and potent, that claims to visibly firm, lift, contour & hydrate your skin.

You apply 1-2 pumps on slightly damp skin both in the morning and evening after your Instafacial plasma in the morning and after your plasma and before your emulsion in the evening.

I just got mine on Valentine’s Day 2025 and the bottle lasted me 2 months when using it twice a day. It had outstanding results in their clinical trials and I’m sharing my personal before and after results below.

Step 3 Dr Diamond’s Metacine collection review | Metacine Instafacial Emulsion Retinopro Growth Factor Night Cream $350

Metacine Instafacial Emulsion is designed to be like a laser treatment in a bottle. It’s a direct-acting, non-irritating bioactive retinoid night cream exfoliates with a unique retinoid that is safe to use all year even on sensitive skin, they say with no irritation and it hasn’t irritated my skin at all. You also don’t have to give up this retinoid for Summer, just make sure to only use it at night.

It also has potent peptides, lipopeptides, a human identical growth factor, Niacinamide and a 4-molecular weight hyaluronic acid complex. All of these ingredients work together to accelerate cell renewal, supporting collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production while hydrating skin and maintaining your skins epidermal barrier. It also allows the plasma to work more effectively thanks to it’s molecular synergy to rejuvenate skin.

INSTAFACIAL EMULSION KEY BENEFITS:

  • Supports healthy collagen & elastin.
  • Visibly smoothes, lifts and firms.
  • Rejuvenates skin for a more youthful appearance.

You only use the Metacine Emulsion at night so it does last about 2 months. It’s applied immediately after the plasma.

NEW step 4 Dr Diamond’s Metacine Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier $300

The Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier is the latest launch from Dr. Diamond’s Metacine skincare line and I’ve been trying it ahead of its September 23rd release.

It’s their fourth product in the collection and I like that they focus on quality over quantity. They only release one product at a time, and each one goes through extensive research and clinical testing before making it to our shelves.

Dr Diamond’s Metacine Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier

So what makes this different from just another luxury moisturizer? The Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier is designed to go deeper than surface-level hydration. It uses a patent-pending technology they call Bioactive Hydrolipid Fusion. Which is a blend of lipid and water micromolecules that closely mimics the way youthful skin hydrates and protects itself. It’s light, absorbs quickly, leaves no greasy residue but still feels rich, nourishing and left my skin feeling really silky and bouncy.

Think of it as both your moisturizer and barrier repair treatment in one.

Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier benefits:

  • Delivers deep hydration through multiple layers of the skin.
  • Helps repair and strengthen the skin barrier.
  • Protects against environmental stressors (like UV + pollution)
  • Supports your skin’s microbiome.
  • Soothes redness and inflammation.
  • Improves texture, elasticity and softness.

If you’re into science-backed skincare, and want hydration that feels like it’s actually doing something, this might be one to watch or add to your Metacine collection.

Here’s the link you get it before it’s launch on 9/23 so you can get your hands (and face on it first).

How to use Metacine Instafacial collection | 4 step skincare routine

Dr Diamond’s Metacine is a 3 step morning routine and 4 step evening routine:

Morning skincare routine:

  1. Apply 3-5 drops of the Plasma Growth Factor Serum.
Pro tip: Don’t use a full pipette of the plasma. 3-5 drops is all you need and it will help it to last longer. I made the mistake of using a full dropper each time and it only lasted me 3 weeks whereas I still had plenty of emulsion left.
  2. Apply 1-2 drops of the Metacine Instafacial Infusion Biomimetic Microcollagen Matrix to slightly damp skin.
  3. Apply Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier before your SPF. In the morning I follow with eye cream (optional) and SPF (a must have as the emulsion contains retinoid).

Evening skincare routine:

  1. Apply 3-5 drops of the Plasma.
  2. Apply 1-2 drops of the Metacine Instafacial Infusion Biomimetic Microcollagen Matrix to slightly damp skin.
  3. Apply 1-2 pumps of the Emulsion Retinoid Night Cream immediately after.
  4. Apply Hydr/o Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier.

You could just use this skincare collection for a special occasion but it really is something that’s better to stick to for the long term. As it was really after 8 weeks in their clinical trials that people started to see the difference in firmness and less wrinkles and the best results can take up to 3 months.

Pro tip

To get the best results from your Dr. Diamond Metacine Plasma, try using it after your next at-home microneedling treatment. The micro channels you create during your treatment will allow the plasma to penetrate even deeper. Allowing the human growth factors regenerating and healing properties in the plasma to work optimally.

The NEW Metacine Instafacial 4 step system review

The Metacine Instafacial collection just went from 2 steps to 4 steps which originally I wasn’t happy about because of the increase in cost, but to be fair what luxury skincare system isn’t costly. I loved the original concept of it decluttering and streamlining your skincare routine into 2 steps but adding another 2 steps does push up the price of this skincare system from $550 to $1175 and negates it being what it once was, a streamlined skincare routine. However…

If you already love the system and aren’t bothered by the price tag obviously you’re going to get a lot more benefits from 4 products that just the original 2 and I did feel like this collection could benefit from a deeply hydrating moisturizer.

The new 4-step skincare system now includes Metacine’s InstaFacial® Infusion Biomimetic Microcollagen Matrix ($325) and HYDR/O Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier ($300). The new HYDR/O Bioactive Hydrolipid Barrier is a deeply hydrating moisturizer that mimics youthful skin’s ability to hydrate, repair & protect itself.

All of Dr. Diamond’s Metacine collection is designed to work in harmony with your skin to visibly lift, firm and hydrate your skin for immediate & long-term results.

Skin that looks and feels firmer, lifted, hydrated and defined. Metacine

Is Dr Diamond Metacine worth it?

There’s no getting around the fact that it’s expensive and now even more so if you add in the 4th step. Can you personally justify the cost? It depends on whether you see enough results to make it worth it. Can you streamline your skincare routine as that will save you some money? How much do you normally spend on skincare? If you normally buy drugstore brands I’m not going to tell you to rush out and buy this luxury skincare collection but if it’s in your price range it’s a phenomenal option. Dr Diamond’s Metacine collection has:

  1. Powerful ingredients. I got through my 1st Instafacial collection quickly as I was using way too much. Now I just use 3 drops of the plasma and 1-2 pumps of the emulsion so it lasts at least 2 months.
  2. It can minimize the amount of other products used and skincare steps: Now this was more relevant when it was 2 products and not 4 you needed. However, you don’t need to use a Vitamin C, serum, moisturizer, oil, or eye cream with these and they’re safe to use around your eyes. The collection is designed to replace everything but your sunscreen (and you can still use retinol if you prefer). I manage without my other products when I travel but when I’m home in Vegas I do still use an eye cream.
  3. Effectiveness: You should see glowing, hydrated skin within days. Clinical trial results showed that 91% of people reported smoother, more refined skin after 4 weeks and 91% saw an improvement in crow’s feet at 8 weeks. So be patient with it.

Dr Diamond Metacine before and after photos and results

I’ve been using the 2 step system every morning and evening for 2 months now and these are my results. It’s not a miracle fix or face lift in a bottle but there are definite improvements. Even my friends started complimenting me on my skin and asked what I was doing, as they know as a Beauty Blogger I’m always trying something new.

I highly recommend taking before and after photos so you can track your progress. As it’s very hard to track progress just by looking in the mirror day after day as the results don’t come overnight.

Results after 1 month:

Dr Diamonds Metacine instafacial results
Before where I look like I almost have 3 lids (top) | More lifted lids after (bottom)
Dr Diamonds Metacine instafacial before after
More brown spots in the before photo (top) VS after (bottom)
Dr Diamonds Metacine instafacial reesults pores smaller
Before top | Pores look smaller in the after photo (bottom)

The biggest changes I saw were that my pores looked a lot smaller and less visible, there was improvement in my overall skin tone and radiance, reduction in brown hyperpigmentation spots, and my skin color looked more even.
