The Fall capsule wardrobe essentials to own for Fall
Fall fashion must haves for an up to date look this season. Womens Fall fashion has so many exciting and fresh new trends to try but if you’re like me, your closet probably doesn’t need all 17 Fall trends and neither does your bank account. I’ve narrowed it down to these 5 womens Fall fashion essentials that will get the most wear and are as practical for everyday as they are stylish. What’s great about these Fall capsule wardrobe pieces is that all of the options can be mixed and matched to create numerous different outfit combinations. They’re also easy to dress up or down.

5 Fall Fashion Must Haves
These 5 Fall fashion essentials can be as affordable or luxe as you want. I’ve already stocked up on all of these and have linked to my favorites from designer to budget friendly.
- Knee high boots
- Black or dark jeans (these are the black denim jeans I have favorited)
- Blazer
- Sweater dress
- Tights
1. Knee high boots
It wouldn’t be a Fall must haves list without boots. If you only update your wardrobe with 1 piece, my suggestion is to make it boots. I normally spend more on shoes and boots but went for budget white knee high boots. As I’m worried how quickly they’ll wear and will need replacing.
While black boots are still in fashion and will never go out of style, white, light neutrals or metallics in knee high or over the knee styles are more on trend this season.
I’m really impressed with the quality and fit of the white ones I’m wearing (above and below). I’ve already worn them with my sweater dresses and took them with me to Colorado to wear with my pink coat and bag. You can always expect lots of pink from me in October during breast cancer awareness month.
2. Womens Fall Fashion Must Haves | Black or dark wash jeans
Black jeans go with pretty much everything and are more suited to Fall than blue or white. If you’re creating a Fall capsule wardrobe black jeans are easy to mix and match with your matching knit sets to create more outfits. They also look stylish with blazers for a smart casual look or under sweater dresses on colder days. I always feel like black jeans, if they’re not distressed, look smarter than blue jeans.
That’s why I tend to always go for black coated jeans. G-Star (lasted me 6 years before fading and losing their shine), Holland & Cooper (my current pair) and L’Agence have the best ones for a flattering, true to size fit.
Laundry tip for dark jeans: make sure to wash them inside out to preserve the coating. My black jeans are always on repeat for Autumn which is why they’re on my top 5 Fall fashion must haves list.
3. Blazers
A blazer is always great for transitioning into seasons and a womens Fall fashion must have. As it can be worn with summer dresses at the start of Fall, then with jeans and boots or pumps as it gets colder.
When it comes to colors, black’s an obvious choice but red, fuchsia pink, green, yellow, lilac, green and indigo blue are the trending colors for Fall. But don’t ask me to narrow it down, I’m European and pretty much have a blazer in every color.
If you need some styling inspiration, here’s 31 ways to wear a blazer with jeans.
4. Sweater dress
I’m a huge fan of sweater dresses and matching sets and they’re definitely a Fall fashion must have for me. One because they’re so easy to throw on without thinking twice and two because they’re so comfy and cozy.
Short sleeve sweater dresses are perfect for transitioning into Fall and then long sleeve sweater dresses are easy to style with your knee high boots and tights on colder days.
If you’re worried about melting inside when restaurants and stores have the heating cranked go for thinner materials and sleeveless versions and layer up rather than wearing heavy knits.
5. Layer Up With Tights
Black, tan, colorful, it doesn’t matter for Fall and Winter. Logo tights are still in, as seen at the Fendace (not a typo) and Fendi shows at Milan Fashion Week. They make it easy to be able to keep wearing dresses as it gets colder and again from Winter going into Spring. I’ve had so much wear out of mine.
Just be careful with your zippers and jewelry! Be sure to pick up at least one extra pair to keep in your purse for emergencies along with some clear nail varnish to prevent snags and ladders runnings.
