Feel good ideas to do at home for personal growth and to boost productivity
Productive Things to do at Home – Fun ideas to try
Productive things to do at home can be hard to do when watching Netflix, raiding the kitchen, face masking, online shopping and a glass of wines within reach.
All of us spent more time than ever at home in 2020. As much as I love ebing social and going out, I also really enjoy being at home and finding new things to learn and implement. I picked up lots of ideas from others too. So please keep sharing what you’re doing to stay motivated and productive at home by dropping your ideas in the comments at the bottom.
Did anyone else’s Mum not let them use the word ‘bored’ growing up? If I did I was handed a duster or a hoover. I learnt quickly how to entertain myself! I did all of the obvious things most people did during quarantine: organizing, projects I’d been putting off around the house and Zoom videoing everyone so I’m not going to list those.
Here are some productive, feel good ideas to do at home that don’t involve organizing, cleaning or Pinterest! So when you’re fed up of watching Netflix, eating and drinking, face masking and online shopping here are some ideas for personal growth. As well as to help others, to stay fit, healthy and sane at home and to leave you feeling better, smarter, and less stressed!
7 Productive Things To Do At Home
1) Sign up for a free online course
My friend shared this idea and I jumped straight on it and enrolled in 2 courses. I did the free version, where you audit the class but can’t take exams or get credit and the other I paid to do via EDX at Harvard. I got suckered in, thinking how cool it is to say you studied at Harvard and have the credit and certificate to prove it. It’s something most of us would never get to do.
2) Learn a language
Many of us put it off as we don’t have enough time, or start and don’t finish and then forget everything. I’m totally guilty of doing that last Winter in Chile. I’d put on the podcast in the car or airplane and then didn’t keep it up when we got back. We don’t really have that excuse now. There are so many online courses and podcasts to choose from and it’s something you can check off your bucket list while being productive at home.
3) Online Workouts
I’m a creature of habit and was worried I’d be totally lost without the gym and weights but this has taught me to get creative and try different things. I don’t have Peloton or any equipment besides a Spin bike (I’ve been sharing spin classes on the blog if anyone else has a bike) but you can do Peloton’s Spin classes without needing their bike.
It’s amazing how sore I am from changing it up. It doesn’t have to just be total body workouts in the traditional sense. Although I’ve been creating and sharing those on here too. A couple of the principle dancers from the American Ballet Company have been live streaming ballet classes on their Instagram from their kitchens for free or Nike Premium is offering lots of different workouts for free at the moment too.
Working outs one of the best productive things to do at home for both your mental and physical health.
4) Sign up for a Pageant
You have the time to work on your platform, interview, wardrobe and everything else and it’ll also give you something to look forward to. As well as being able to help charities that are really struggling right now with fundraising events being cancelled and their stores temporarily closed.
5) Learn to meditate
Destress and escape with a free app like Insight Timer. It doesn’t matter how long you do it for or when. Do it when it suits you and when you need it.
6) Offer help to those in need
There are lots of charities you can be an ambassador for or serve on the committee to help plan events for when we can schedule them. To get started, google and find what interests you and matches your skill sets.
7) Romantic Productive Things to do at Home | Try a New Recipe and Have Date Night in
Productive things to do at home don’t always have to involve online courses. It can be nurturing your relationship.
Do your hair, makeup and put on something that makes you feel good, it’s ok if you keep your slippers on. Try a new recipe and cook something together either in person (if you live together) or do the same recipe together virtually. Pour some wine or try making a new cocktail and enjoy date night with less distractions.
I stocked up from GourmetFoodstore and NakedWines (I get most of my wines there now so that I can try new ones, support small wine growers and save money) so I didn’t even have to leave the house to shop.
8) Get your best skin yet
If you missed last weeks podcast and blog post, I was sharing how to get glowing skin. Another positive is we’re going to have our best skin yet from the lack of pollution, makeup and extra time for skincare.
Get Glowing Skin : I’m not flogging you my favorite products but talking nutrition, stress reduction and everything else that impacts our skin.
If you’re looking for low calorie cocktails, I share a couple of my favorite cocktail recipes under 200 calories using 4 ingredients on Spill The Tea Live on my BFF segment. Followed by easy and safe ways to detox (no crazy juicing or fasting involved). It’s all about the balance: a little naughty and a little nice (fitness and self care)!
