What’s the Best LED Face Mask? My Honest Comparison

best led mask currentbody series 2

Last Updated on October 14, 2026 by Eve Dawes

LED face masks have gained popularity over the years as they’re known for transforming your skin in just minutes a day but not all LED masks are created equal! I’ve reviewed lots of LED masks before and I know it can get overwhelming with new masks launching all the time. Each red light therapy mask boasts the best results, new designs, and the power to help boost collagen, improve skin density, diminish discoloration and smooth wrinkles for a younger-looking complexion. So what is the most effective LED mask and what’s the best LED face mask for you? A few things to think about when choosing the right one for you is do you want red light only, how much red light coverage does the mask provide, and have the LEDs all been tested to make sure they’re giving you an even treatment.

I’ve been using LED masks since the original CurrentBody Series 1 and have had in-person education with CurrentBody directly, which means this comparison goes well beyond spec sheets and marketing claims. I bring professional beauty formulation training through my own cosmetics line, Dawes Custom Cosmetics, which informs how I analyze wavelength accuracy, LED placement and clinical data in every device I review. I’ve now tested all three generations of CurrentBody LED masks, along with other devices including GloTech and TheraFace Mask Glo. And after years of having the same favorite, I’ve finally changed my mind about which LED mask I’d recommend buying.

LED mask showdown: What is the most effective LED face mask?

What truly makes the best LED light mask for your skincare routine? I compared the features, designs and my personal experiences with different red light therapy masks to look at:

  • Which LED masks offer the best coverage, particularly around the eyes, nose, mouth and chin.
  • Which designs are the most comfortable and practical to use consistently.
  • Which wavelengths and treatment options are available for different skin concerns.
  • How manufacturers verify wavelength accuracy and treatment consistency.
  • Which masks offer the best combination of features and value.

And the winner isn’t necessarily the mask with the most LEDs or the highest price tag.

Why does the placement and amount of LED’s matter in a red light therapy mask

One thing I’ve always paid attention to when comparing LED masks is the placement of the lights. If a mask has large gaps between LEDs or doesn’t cover certain areas of your face, those areas may receive less light. However, LED count alone doesn’t tell you how effective a mask will be. Wavelength, irradiance, dose, treatment time and consistency are all important. I also look at how a mask fits. Some rigid masks sit away from the face, while flexible silicone masks contour more closely to your skin. Personally, I prefer flexible silicone masks. They’re more comfortable for me, take up less room when I’m traveling and are easier to fit into my skincare routine.

Best LED face mask overall: CurrentBody Series 3

For a long time, CurrentBody Series 2 was my favorite LED face mask. I’d used it extensively, liked its coverage and fit, and had documented my results. However, after testing Series 3, it’s taken the top spot. What changed my mind wasn’t simply the increase from 236 LEDs in Series 2 to 750 in Series 3. It’s the combination of six wavelengths, customizable treatments and the flexible design I already liked.

Why CurrentBody Series 3 is my favorite

The biggest difference for me is versatility. Series 2 focuses on red and near-infrared light therapy, with three wavelengths designed primarily for anti-aging concerns. Series 3 offers six wavelengths, including blue, green and yellow light, alongside red and near-infrared options. It also has four preset treatments and CurrentBody’s MyDose technology, which lets you personalize treatments through the app.

I love having the option to target different skin concerns rather than using exactly the same treatment every time. My skin concerns aren’t always the same. Sometimes I’m focused on fine lines and firmness, other times it’s redness, pigmentation or breakouts. Series 3 gives me more options without needing a completely different LED mask. I also appreciate that CurrentBody has retained its flexible silicone design. Having tried rigid masks, comfort makes a big difference to me.

Is Series 3 actually better than Series 2?

For my needs, yes. But I wouldn’t tell everyone who owns Series 2 to rush out and replace it. Series 2 is still a great red light therapy mask, particularly if your main concerns are fine lines and wrinkles and you’re happy with your existing results.

Series 3 is my favorite because it offers more treatment options and personalization, not because I’ve established that it produces better anti-aging results than Series 2. I’ve shared my personal results, before-and-after photos, detailed features and whether I think it’s worth upgrading in my full CurrentBody Series 3 LED Mask review.

CurrentBody Series 2: Still one of my favorite red light therapy masks

Even though Series 3 has taken the top spot, I don’t want to overlook Series 2. It was a noticeable improvement over the original CurrentBody mask, adding a third wavelength, more LEDs and better coverage.

Series 2 has 236 LEDs and three wavelengths:

  • 633nm red light
  • 830nm near-infrared light
  • 1072nm deep near-infrared light
best led mask for coverage flexible fit

Its flexible silicone design covers more of the nose and chin than Series 1, and the updated fit makes it more comfortable to wear. I also like how easy it is to use. If you’re primarily interested in red light therapy for signs of aging and don’t want to customize different treatments, Series 2 may be all you need.

I’ve documented my long-term experience and before-and-after results in my CurrentBody Series 2 review.

Best LED light masks for red, blue and infrared LED therapy | Dr Dennis Gross, GloTech, Shark Cryoglow and TheraFace Mask Glo LED face mask

If you’re looking for an LED face mask that offers more than just red light therapy, there are several options worth considering. Dr. Dennis Gross, Shark CryoGlow, LED Esthetics GloTech, Omnilux and TheraFace Mask Glo all have different approaches to LED coverage, wavelengths and treatment options. However, it’s not just about which mask has the most LEDs. Their placement, wavelength accuracy, light dose and how comfortably the mask fits are just as important when choosing the best LED face mask for your skin concerns.

One thing I always look at is how much of the face the LEDs actually cover, especially around the eyes, nose, mouth and chin. Some masks have noticeable gaps in these areas, while others use a flexible silicone design that contours more closely to the face. Neither design automatically guarantees better results, but these differences are worth considering before spending hundreds of dollars on a device.

Here’s how they compare and what I’d consider before buying.

Shark CryoGlow LED mask: Pros and cons

Shark CryoGlow combines red, blue and infrared LED light therapy with under-eye cooling, which makes it quite different from most traditional LED masks. It offers four treatment modes, so you can choose between treatments depending on whether you’re more concerned about aging, breakouts or maintaining your results.

The mask has a rigid design that sits approximately 2cm away from your face, along with cooling pads positioned beneath the eyes. There are pros and cons to this design. The cooling feature is intended to help soothe the under-eye area and temporarily reduce puffiness, but the pads also occupy space where you might otherwise want LED coverage. Depending on your face shape, they may also create pressure beneath the eyes.

Shark uses its iQLED technology to distribute light across the treatment area. If acne and breakouts are among your main concerns, having blue light therapy alongside red and infrared makes this an interesting alternative to a red-light-only mask. However, I’d pay particular attention to the fit and under-eye coverage when comparing it with CurrentBody.

Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro

The Dr Dennis Gross LED mask DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro is another popular option, particularly if you want both anti-aging and acne-focused treatments. It has 100 LED lights and combines red, blue and near-infrared light therapy in a rigid, cordless mask.

Its main advantage is that you can use red and blue light treatment options without needing separate devices. Blue light is commonly used for acne-related concerns, while red and near-infrared light are associated with treatments targeting the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

However, when comparing its design with CurrentBody, you’ll notice larger spaces around the eyes and mouth where there aren’t LEDs. That doesn’t automatically mean the mask is ineffective, but LED placement and the resulting treatment coverage are worth considering. I also personally prefer flexible silicone masks because they’re lighter, take up less space in my luggage and are easier to travel with.

LED Esthetics GloTech Mask Pro: A More Affordable Alternative

I really liked the GloTech Mask Pro when I reviewed it. It offers red, blue and near-infrared LED light therapy in a flexible mask design, making it worth considering if you want treatment options for both signs of aging and breakouts without spending as much as you would on some of the more advanced devices.

LED Esthetics GloTech mask offers both red and blue LED therapy

One of its strengths is comfort. I found the flexible design comfortable to wear, and it’s much more practical for traveling than a bulky rigid mask. However, the coverage doesn’t extend underneath the chin in the same way as CurrentBody’s newer masks, although LED Esthetics does offer a separate neck collar if that’s an area you want to treat.

I preferred CurrentBody when I switched because of its coverage and additional wavelengths, and Series 3 now offers even more personalization. However, GloTech remains a good alternative if you want red, blue and near-infrared light therapy without needing all of Series 3’s customizable features.

Omnilux Contour Face LED Mask

Omnilux Contour Face uses two wavelengths, 633nm red light and 830nm near-infrared light, delivered through 132 LEDs. It has a flexible silicone design and a double-strap fastening system, making it another option if comfort and portability are priorities.

The main differences compared with CurrentBody’s newer masks are the wavelengths and coverage. Omnilux doesn’t include the 1072nm deep near-infrared wavelength found in CurrentBody Series 2 and Series 3, or the additional blue, green and yellow wavelengths available in Series 3. Its design also doesn’t extend beneath the chin, and there are larger spaces without LEDs around the eyes and mouth.

That doesn’t mean you need six wavelengths to get results from an LED mask. If your main concerns are signs of aging and you’re happy with a straightforward red and near-infrared treatment, Omnilux may be sufficient. However, I prefer CurrentBody’s coverage and the flexibility of being able to address more skin concerns with Series 3.

TheraFace Mask Glo: 504 LEDs and Built-In Massage

If you’re looking for an LED face mask with lots of features, TheraFace Mask Glo certainly sounds impressive. It has 504 red, infrared and blue LED lights, along with a built-in massage feature. Therabody also reports clinical testing showing improvements in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, radiance and firmness over eight weeks.

However, this is where actually testing a mask makes such a difference. I found TheraFace Mask Glo very heavy and uncomfortable to wear, and it left deep lines on my face every time I used it. It’s definitely not a mask I’d choose to travel with because of its weight and rigid design.

I also wasn’t a fan of the massage feature. I couldn’t feel it doing anything particularly beneficial, and to me it was more of a loud, annoying buzzing noise than a relaxing massage. Thankfully, you can switch it off.

While the 504 LEDs and combination of red, infrared and blue light therapy are appealing specifications, comfort is a major deciding factor for me. I much prefer the flexible silicone design of CurrentBody, especially when it’s something I want to use consistently rather than occasionally.

Which LED Face Mask Is Best for Different Skin Concerns?

If your main concern is anti-aging, a mask offering red and near-infrared light therapy may be all you need. CurrentBody Series 2 and Omnilux Contour Face are both options worth considering, although they differ in LED counts, wavelengths and coverage.

If you’re also concerned about acne and breakouts, masks offering blue light therapy, including CurrentBody Series 3, GloTech, Shark CryoGlow, Dr. Dennis Gross and TheraFace Mask Glo, give you additional treatment options. However, CurrentBody Series 3 goes a step further by offering blue, green and yellow light alongside red and near-infrared light therapy, giving you options for concerns including breakouts, uneven skin tone, visible redness and signs of aging.

For me, CurrentBody Series 3 is now my favorite overall because it combines six wavelengths, 750 LEDs and customizable treatments through the CurrentBody app with the comfortable, flexible silicone design I already liked. What makes it stand out is that I can personalize which colors of light I use on different areas of my face depending on my skin concerns, rather than using the same treatment everywhere. It’s that versatility, not simply having more LEDs, that makes Series 3 my top pick.

That doesn’t mean everyone needs Series 3, particularly if you’re happy with a simpler red light therapy mask. But after testing all three CurrentBody generations and comparing the different designs and features of these masks, it’s the one that best suits what I want from an at-home LED device.

I’ve kept the detailed wavelength breakdown, MyDose explanation and my personal before-and-after results in my full CurrentBody Series 3 LED Mask review if you want to see exactly why I upgraded my recommendation.

What makes your LED mask effective | Why LED accuracy is important

Another factor that impacts your red light therapy masks efficacy is the masks LED’s accuracy. Ok, let me get technical for a bit. Some brands claim their LEDs are accurate within +2nm but when tested the masks show big variations in wavelength output. This means some areas of the face receive better or worse treatment than others which can create inconsistent results.

The only way to guarantee effectiveness is to test every single LED bulb which CurrentBody does as they own their production and testing facilities. You can even check your masks results yourself by scanning the Veritace card your mask comes

Effective treatment depends on a precise balance of:

LED quality: Emitting the correct wavelength at the same strength, every time.

Wavelength accuracy: Reaching the exact skin depth needed to achieve results.

Coverage consistency: Ensuring light reaches the full treatment area evenly.

Power: Balanced over time for effective treatments without irritating the skin.

For me the most important differences are the consistent and even LED coverage and increased eye and chin coverage as my eyes are my main area of concern when it comes to aging and most of us want to have a tighter more youthful jawline.

Best LED mask FAQ’s

What is the best LED face mask for anti-aging in 2026?

CurrentBody Series 3 LED mask wins for me because of it’s six wavelengths, deep near-infrared, customizable treatments to treat different concerns, even LED coverage, and the fact that every bulb in every mask is tested.

Is CurrentBody better than Omnilux?

Omnilux LED mask looks more like CurrentBody Series 1 in shape. It has that lovely flexible fit and a double strap for improved fit but doesn’t come down under your chin to give you LED coverage there. It also only has 2 wavelengths: red and near-infrared, it doesn’t offer the deep near-infrared that CurrentBody does.

Is a flexible or rigid LED mask better?

I personally prefer flexible silicone masks as they sit closer to your skin for better light penetration vs rigid masks that sit further away. They’re also easier and lighter to fold and travel with. Having also tried TheraFace Mask which is rigid, I find the silicone masks much more comfortable and they don’t leave lines on my face like the rigid ones do.

How many LEDs does a face mask need to be effective?

There is no single perfect LED count, the number of LEDs is relative to their power and more isn’t always more. It’s also not just the number of bulbs, but the density, placement and the nm of the LEDs that are important too. Effective, FDA-cleared masks use a combination of, 633nm (red) and 830nm (near-infrared) for efficacy. The most important thing is even coverage/uniformity and their wavelengths. Which is why CurrentBody’s LED count with verified accuracy matters more than raw count. You can check those for all of the LED masks mentioned in the images above.

Do I need blue light therapy in my LED mask?

This depends on your skin concerns. If breakouts and acne are a concern then a multi light LED light therapy mask with blue light might be better for you. If you’re purely looking for anti-aging benefits, red, near-infrared, and deep near-infrared are sufficient.

Is the CurrentBody LED Mask Series 3 worth the price?

CurrentBody LED Mask Series 3 price is in alignment with most other LED masks. You can read my full CurrentBody LED Mask Series 3 review with before and after photos to decide for yourself. Current price comparisons:
• CurrentBody LED Mask Series 3 $569.99 (use discount code GLAMOURCB, 6 wavelengths, 750 LED bulbs).
• Omnilux Contour Face $395 (most affordable red light therapy mask but only has red light and NIR).
• Dr Dennis Gross DRx SpectralLite $455 (red, NIR, blue light, solid mask with only 100 lights).
• GloTech Mask Pro $399 (best affordable red light therapy mask: red, NIR and blue light, full review).
• TheraFace Mask Glo $379.99 (504 red, infrared and blue LED lights, solid heavy mask).

Solawave is a newer contender with their 4 Non-Invasive Light Therapies mask (medical-grade Red Light Therapy, Infrared, Deep Red, and Amber Light each to reach different layers of the skin for maximum results).

The best mask is for you will all come down to your skin concerns and how deep your pockets are. However, I do highly recommend always getting both the face and neck and décolleté LED masks, as our necks and chest show signs of aging just as much and often get forgotten about.
