CurrentBody LED Mask Series 1 Review: Red Light Therapy at Home
2026 update: Since writing this review CurrentBody have launched the Series 2 which adds a third wavelength, more LEDs and an improved fit. I’ve reviewed the Series 2 separately, read my full CurrentBody LED Mask Series 2 review to see how it compares. CurrentBody LED mask first came onto my radar when I saw it on Lily Collins in Season 3 of Emily in Paris and I’ve been wanting to try this red light therapy at home ever since. I was researching the casts wardrobe and this specific LED mask for the ‘how to copy the Emily in Paris looks‘ and they didn’t just use this in that scene, they used it on the cast during hair and makeup for it’s red light therapy benefits and instant glow. So obviously when Currentbody reached out to me I jumped on the chance to try their facial light therapy. I was already using Solawave red light therapy wand and loved the results from that. So I wanted to see if LED face masks are worth it, share my LED face mask before and after, how to get the best results from it, answer all the FAQs and share my discount code in this comprehensive Currentbody LED face mask review.
I’ve been using the CurrentBody LED mask since Series 1 and have since upgraded to the Series 2, giving me a genuine long-term perspective across both devices. I had in-person education with CurrentBody directly and bring professional beauty formulation training through my own cosmetics line, Dawes Custom Cosmetics, to every device review I write. This post contains affiliate links and a gifted LED mask which do not affect my opinion or the price.

Some of the photos were shot in portrait mode with lighting but the skin has not been edited so that can see true LED mask before and after photos.

What is CurrentBody LED mask
It’s a FDA cleared LED face mask that uses red light therapy for advanced anti-aging. Their first mask was the Series 1 which I’ve reviewed here, and their newest model is the Series 2 which I’ve also reviewed.
The brand is also a celeb favorite used by Kate Hudson, Halle Berry, Kourtney Kardashian, Renée Zellweger and the cast of And Just Like That (the Sex and the City reboot) to name a few.

The CurrentBody LED mask has also won a ton of awards including ‘Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards’ but does it live up to the hype and is it worth it? In this review I’m covering:
- What are LED face mask benefits?
- Are they worth it?
- Does red light therapy at home work?
- How do you use LED masks?
- Currentbody LED mask review: everything you need to know

How the CurrentBody LED Mask Works
Here’s a bit of the technology and science behind the CurrentBody LED Mask that creates the red light therapy benefits before I get into showing you more:
- It has patented flexible silicone which ensures the red light and near-infrared penetrates every area of your face.
- Series 1 works by using 2 clinically proven wavelengths: red and near-infrared to reduce wrinkles. Series 2 also has deep-near infrared.
- The infrared and red light therapy encourages collagen production to give you a glow, improve skin tone, texture and firmness.

The 2 clinically proven wavelengths the CurrentBody LED mask uses is Red and Near-Infrared. The mask uses the same clinically-proven wavelengths as professional salon machines to ensure it’s as effective as possible. The red light therapy works below the skin’s surface to stimulate the natural rejuvenation process and to encourage collagen production which is said to give you an instant ‘Glow’. We’ll see when I take give it a go!

10 Things That Make the CurrentBody LED Mask Different
The CurrentBody LED mask is different to other LED masks in a few ways and isn’t a fixed hard mask:
- It’s fully flexible to ensure that the maximum amount of light hits the lower layers of the skin for both instant and long-term results.
- The flexible design make it great for traveling with.
- “It’s been made to medical device directives and delivers the same clinically-proven wavelengths as professional salon machines.” CurrentBody.
- It’s both 100% safe and 100% pain-free and because it auto shuts off after 10 minutes there’s no risk of over exposure.
- This anti-aging light therapy mask uses 2 combinations of light therapy infra-red and red light wavelengths.
- Adjustable strap to fit most head sizes.
- Storage bag to protect it while not in use.
- Optional goggles for those with sensitive eyes.
- Easy to wipe clean surfaces.
- Option to use with their hydrogel mask to increased efficacy and hydration.
How to use the CurrentBody LED mask
Follow this step by step guide for using the CurrentBody LED mask to get the best results. You do need to charge it for 4-5 hours before use, do a skin sensitivity test on your arm for 10 minutes and check that none of your medications or vitamins cause light sensitivity.

- Cleanse your face thoroughly before using this facial light therapy device.
- The LED mask can be used on a dry face or with a serum.
- Apply their hydrogel mask if you’re using it (optional).
- Fit your LED Light Therapy Device by adjusting the velcro strap around your head.
- Turn on your LED face mask & chill for 10 minutes. It automatically turns off after that time.
- Remove your device.
- Gently rub any excess serum into the skin if you used any.
- Finish your treatment with serum, moisturizer & SPF.
- Wipe down and store your mask.
More detailed usage instructions:
Start by cleansing your face thoroughly. They recommend using their CurrentBody Skin Daily Foaming Cleanser. The LED mask can be used on a dry face or with a serum. However, they recommend the CurrentBody Skin Green Tea Serum before fitting the mask which is a lightweight, non-sticky serum.

In addition they recommended using their CurrentBody Skin Hydrogel Face Mask under the LED red light therapy mask once a week. It’s not compulsory but it will enhance the LED performance and instantly rehydrate as the lights can be drying. It’s also designer to let the photons of LED through the mask into the skin so no worries about it diminishing the effects of the red light therapy.
Fit your LED Light Therapy Device over the Hydrogel mask if you’re using it by adjusting the velcro strap around your head. I really liked the cooling and hydrating effect of the mask and definitely saw the most difference in the results by using the LED mask with this.
The comfort goggles included are optional. If you’re over-sensitive to light, just pop them on to protect your eyes. Unfortunately you can’t see through them to be able to multi-task or watch tv during your treatment.
Turn on your LED face mask & chill for 10 minutes. It automatically turns off after that time. Then simply remove your device and gently rub any excess serum into your skin if you used any. Finish your treatment by applying either a few drops of the recommended CurrentBody Skin Hyaluronic Acid Serum & Glow Serum or your own, then moisturizer & SPF as usual.
How to clean your CurrentBody LED mask
To clean your at home light therapy mask, wipe both sides with a clean cloth or 70% alcohol wipes. Then safely store your device in the protective storage bag it comes with.
Does the CurrentBody LED Mask Work?
Yes, but the results depend entirely on the quality of the device. Not all LED masks are created equal. There are various factors that effect it’s efficacy for the best LED mask including wavelength accuracy, coverage consistency, power and LED quality. And a lot of the time we get better results at the dermatologist and aestheticians than at home because they use medical-grade devices. However, because the CurrentBody LED mask is designed with medical device directives and delivers the same clinically-proven wavelengths as professional salon machines you can get just as good results from this specific red light therapy mask at home as you would in a skincare professionals office. It’s also clinically proven to work, more on that below.

CurrentBody LED Mask Benefits: What Red Light Therapy Does for Your Skin
Red light therapy and near-infrared therapy benefits are heavily documented but when you combine both anti-aging red and near infra-red light therapy you get even more benefits which include:
- Red light (633NM) stimulates collagen production to create an instant glow, improve texture and firmness over the long term.
- Calms redness.
- Improves skin tone.
- Near-Infrared (830NM) boosts circulation, improves blood flow and increases oxygen to your cells.
95% of users said their skin tone, texture and firmness was improved
CurrentBody
In addition, because the LED light boosts blood circulation, it helps to get nutrients to the skin. Which is supposed to help improve the look of surface scarring caused by acne and blemishes.
That all sounds great but let’s see if it actually works and the extent of LED face mask benefits.

CurrentBody LED Mask Review
Now that I’ve covered the tech, features and how to use it lets get into the important stuff. Does CurrentBody LED Mask Series 1 work and is it easy to use? I found the mask comfortable, convenient and easy to use.
Is it comfortable
Of course they say that’s its super flexible and comfortable to wear but so do other brands. However, I did actually find it comfortable to wear. It’s easy to adjust to size and I could walk around without it falling off. My friend has a flexible mask from another brand that she says puts too much pressure on her nose and leaves marks but I didn’t experience that at all with the CurrentBody LED mask.
Is it convenient to use
I found this infrared and red light therapy at home mask really convenient to use as it fit well and I didn’t need to wear the goggles. Meaning I could watch TV, do emails, make coffee, etc and didn’t need to just sit there. It also only takes 10 minutes which isn’t a big time commitment.
However, if you need to wear the goggles you’re going to have to sit or lie there as they’re not see-through. So maybe put on your meditation, podcast or take a quick power nap. It auto shuts off if you fall asleep so don’t worry about leaving it on for too long.
It’s also pliable, so I’ve been packing it in with me when I travel so that I can keep using it.
Did I see results from this red light therapy device
The first time I used it, I didn’t use their serum or mask and didn’t see any results in regards to either a glow, improved texture, or anti-aging results. But this isn’t an instant fix. It’s a beauty device that works with consistent use over time (think, a minimum of 12 weeks, using it 5x per week). Scroll down for my all of my LED face mask before and after photos taken over time.

Is the CurrentBody LED mask worth it
Whether or not the LED mask is worth it or not depends on the results you’re expecting from it and if you’re prepared to be consistent with it. It’s a bit like going to the gym. Once a week or every now and then won’t really do much for you. However, the more consistent you are, the better the results you’ll get. The mask is the same. You need to use it for 10 minutes 5 times a week if you want to see any changes.
If you’re expecting 100% reduction in wrinkles and to look like you’ve had a facelift, skip it. You can expect you’re results to be more like the ones I’ve posted in the LED mask before and after photos below.
Currentbody LED mask FAQ’s
They recommend using their LED face mask for 10 minutes, 5 x a week as part of your skincare routine. You don’t have to time your red light therapy treatment as it auto shuts off after that time.
You’re best to stick to the manufacturers recommendations when it comes to facial light therapy and anything involving red or infrared light. Although red light therapy is safe to do at home, the side effects of doing more than the recommended amount tends to be dry skin.
I researched this a lot and the doctors all seem of the same opinion that it’s generally safe to use an at-home LED face mask every day but to follow the manufacturer’s instructions, not overuse it, and use a mask that’s FDA cleared like CurrentBody. I like that this mask auto turns off after 10 mins, there’s no need to repeat the light therapy treatment.
What’s the difference between red light and near infrared LED?
Firstly red light is visible to the human eye whereas infrared is not. They also fall on different parts of the light spectrum.
Red light falls into the visible part of the light spectrum between 630-700 nm on the electromagnetic scale and is used to treat the surface of the skin. Near infrared wavelengths fall into the invisible part of the light spectrum between 700 and 1200 nm
Degree Wellness

So what does that actually mean when it comes to LED red light therapy? The CurrentBody LED face mask uses both you’re getting energy penetration to different levels of your skin cells to stimulate on more than just 1 level.
CurrentBody LED Mask Series 1 vs Series 2: What’s Different?
Since writing this article CurrentBody released their Series 2 mask with five main upgrades:
- Added deep near-infrared. So it now offers 3 highly precise wavelengths: red (633nm), near-infrared (830nm) and deep near-infrared (1072nm). Designed to work together to help reverse the signs of aging, improve skin elasticity, texture and luminosity, and increase skin brightness.
- Increased amount for LED’s from 132 LEDs to 236 Veritace LED bulbs.
- More coverage: the mask is 10.7% larger and now covers the nose and goes under your chin.
- Improved fit with chin strap.
- Veritace guarantee ensures the highest level of testing for maximum results. Learn more here
I’ve reviewed the Series 2 in full, read my CurrentBody LED Mask Series 2 review for a complete breakdown and my before and after results with the new red light therapy face mask.
Is It Worth Upgrading from Series 1 to Series 2?
I’ve used both and would say, if you don’t have an LED face mask I highly recommend the Series 2 vs Series 1 because of the additional coverage and 3rd wavelength. I also think the LED face and neck kit is the way to go as often those areas get forgotten and the delicate skin there often shows signs of aging more than the face the skin in these areas is thinner and has fewer oil glands.
If you already have Series 1, I’d wait until you need a new mask to upgrade as you’re still getting the benefits of red light therapy.

CurrentBody Skin LED mask before and after results
The easiest way to see if CurrentBody skin LED mask works is to share before and after photos and videos. That way you can decide if the effects and results are visible enough for you to want to invest in one.
How long does it take to see results? I didn’t notice any glow or improvement after the 1st session where I didn’t use the CurrentBody hydrogel mask.

However, I really like the cooling and hydrating feel of using their hydrogel mask with their red light therapy mask. My skin felt more hydrated and glowing afterwards. I share some tips on how to get the most out of combining the 2 masks in the YouTube video review.

After 2 weeks of using the Currentbody LED mask, the main LED face mask benefits I saw were a more even skin tone than anything else. I use retinol as part of my Winter skincare and it tends to leave me red but this has reduced the redness noticeably.
Update 2026

This is the at home light therapy mask and all of the products used or mentioned on the post. Now that I’ve tried their red light therapy mask I really want to try pretty much all of their products but especially their neck and decollatage red light therapy device. As I tend to wake up with an M on my chest as I’m a stomach sleeper. Although Beauty Pie’s neck spray serum has been really helping with that.
My husband and I have also started using their red light LED therapy hair regrowth device because if you’ve been following my hair loss journey you know that’s something I’ve battled with in the past. Subscribe so you don’t miss the full review and before and after photos.
