Is there anything Lady Gaga can’t do? I think House of Gucci proves there’s not!

House of Gucci was a must see movie for me so as soon as I got an invite to the preview last week I jumped at the chance to watch and give my House of Gucci review. Lady Gaga, fashion, fashion history, Jared Leto, Reeve Carney (playing the gorgeous Tom Ford), Italian and New York settings, what more could you want?

I haven’t read the book ‘The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed’ by Sara Gay Forden, so I can’t say how close the movie is to the book. All I can say is that Ridley Scott and the cast really brought this true story to life for me and I was totally immersed in the world of Gucci for 2.5 hours.

I’m not always this gushy about movies but this deserves one it. There’s been mixed House of Gucci reviews but for me this cast just works so well together and each and every single one of them pulled you into the movie and world of Gucci. Lady Gaga is phenomenal as Patrizia Reggiani and takes you on an emotional rollercoaster.

Adam Driver’s evolution from a loving and passionate husband to distant and unreachable, along all of the characters are changes are so beautifully developed you can really understand each of their motives and reason for change.

Jared Leto is unrecognizable as Paulo Gucci (hair and makeup deserves an Oscar for that transformation) and helps balance and lighten up a sombre theme and movie. He’s always genius when it comes to characters and I loved him as this quirky character.

The fashion is everything I hoped it would be, much more on that below. The music is also on point for the era and if I was at home, I’d have been singing along. Just remember your tissues when you watch this movie!

Gucci was my very first designer shoe purchase. It was a pair of green satin horsebit strass swarovski D’orsay heels that I bought way back in the mid 00’s and only just parted with.

I’ve bought so many Gucci shoes and tights since, as they’re actually comfortable for heels and last for years. They were even my wedding shoes. Whether or not you like Gucci, if you love fashion, you’ll be able to appreciate the wardrobe, hair, and makeup changes throughout the movies timeline.

You know how much I love feminine, glamorous styles, so Patrizia Reggiani’s (played by Lady Gaga) Elizabeth Taylor inspired looks had me wanting to go retro. Minus the 80’s perm during that era.

Who better to play Patrizia than Lady Gaga? She’s always taking fashion risks and her House of Gucci premiere tour wardrobe is the most epic premiere wardrobe I’ve ever seen. That woman knows how to work a dress!

The red satin dress when Patrizia (Lady Gaga) first meets Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) at a party. Along with the whole glam Elizabeth Taylor hair and makeup they gave her.
The elegant belted white lace dress and matching cape she wore after they got married to meet the family at Aldo Gucci’s birthday party.
The incredibly structured white and gold button Gucci skirt suit she’s gifted by Aldo Gucci in the store.
If I skied, the red outfit and Christian Dior googles she wore visiting the slopes would be it. Holland Cooper has a similar stunning red Aspen jacket that’s in their Black Friday sale.

House of Gucci True Story

Yes, the House of Gucci movie is devastatingly a true story. It’s based on the non fiction book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara G. Forden. All of the main characters are real. I wasn’t quite sure how I felt about the brand after watching the movie, it’s so tragic but the past’s also the past.

Is Gucci still a family business

No and it’s so sad that this family business founded in 1921 is no longer a family business. Not one family member remains. They all bought each other out until they finally completely lost their stake when Maurizio Gucci sold his shares.

It was bought by Bahrain-based Investcorp and is now owned by Kering. Which is how Salma Hayek ties into being cast in the House of Gucci. Salma’s husband is François-Henri Pinault who is the CEO of Kering.

The Gucci woman – you know what she’s after. The Saint Laurent woman – she’s going to torture you a little bit. You might have sex, but she will drip a little hot wax on you first.

Who’s in the House of Gucci movie | Cast

Literally everyone! This movie is the who’s who of Hollywood and couldn’t have been cast better. Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Salma Hayak and Reeve Carney star in this and once you watch it you’ll see why.

Ridley Scott and the cast are my Oscar nominee and winner predictions. This movie should be a sweep. Full cast of House of Gucci.

House of Gucci opens in US movie theaters on November 24th and on November 26th in UK cinemas. Otherwise you have to wait until it starts streaming on PVOD and VOD.

It was my first time going to the cinema since before Covid but I couldn’t say no to getting a sneak peek of this! Some House of Gucci reviews aren’t so favorable but maybe it’s a girl thing as I took 4 girlfriends with me and they all loved it.
