Cowboy boots are a celeb favorite for 2026. Saddle up, here’s how to wear the trend

Women’s cowboy boots are still very much in style for 2026 and remain a celebrity favorite, with Rihanna, Sienna Miller, Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Kylie Jenner and Dua Lipa all showing just how versatile the Western boot trend can be. They’ve also become a recurring runway favorite, with fashion houses including Chanel, Ganni, Balmain, Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren embracing cowboy and Western-inspired boots in recent collections. The difference now is that women’s cowgirl boots have moved well beyond traditional Western styling, with everything from sleek black and brown leather to suede, white, and statement styles being worn with dresses, denim, shorts and more polished everyday looks. Whether you’re looking for classic cowgirl boots, dress cowboy boots for women or a more fashion-forward pair, I’ve rounded up 40 of the best women’s cowboy boots for 2026, including styles starting at under $50, along with 18 cowboy boot outfits I’d actually wear. I’m also sharing my buying and fit tips, how to style cowboy boots with dresses and jeans, and the colors and silhouettes that look most current right now, so you can find a pair you’ll actually wear beyond one season.

Women’s cowboy boots are also much more versatile and dressier than you might think. Emily Ratajkowski wore hers under a satin bustier and matching midi skirt, Kylie Jenner styled hers with a black tank and midi skirt, and Dua Lipa paired hers with a sexy orange coord set. That’s why I don’t think of cowboy boots as something you only wear with denim or for country concerts anymore. Keep scrolling for lots more cowboy boots outfit ideas, from casual everyday looks to dresses and more elevated ways to style them.

When it comes to color, black and white cowboy boots are still two of the easiest to style, but brown is the standout for Fall/Winter 2026, especially chocolate, cognac and chestnut, along with rich brown suede. Burgundy is another key boot color this season, while cream and ivory offer a softer alternative to bright white. If you’re investing in a more expensive pair, I’d personally stick to a color and silhouette you know you’ll wear for years and have more fun with affordable versions of faster-moving trends.

Are cowboy boots in style for 2026?

Yes, women’s cowboy boots and cowgirl boots are still in style for 2026, and they’re no longer just a Fall/Winter trend. What keeps them feeling current is how they’re being styled. Rather than going full Western, I’m seeing and wearing them with feminine dresses, tailored pieces, denim, matching sets and more minimalist outfits where the boots are the statement.

Cowboy boots have also had plenty of runway backing over the past few seasons, including collections from Chanel, Ganni, Balmain, Stella McCartney and Ralph Lauren. That’s one of the reasons I see them as more than a one-season microtrend. The exact colors, toe shapes and embellishments will change, but Western boots continue to be reinvented.

What women’s cowboy boots are in style for 2026?

For 2026, the women’s cowboy boots that look most current are sleek knee-high and mid-calf styles, suede Western boots, pointed and subtly squared toes, visible stitching, fringe and statement finishes. Brown suede is especially strong for Fall/Winter, while black remains the easiest polished option and white cowboy boots still work year-round. Burgundy and embellished styles are also an easy way to make the trend feel more fashion-forward.

If you’re looking for a classic pair that’ll last beyond 2026, I’d stick with black, brown, tan or white and invest in the best quality your budget allows. For bolder colors, metallics or heavily embellished styles that may date more quickly, I’d spend less. That’s also how I tend to shop trends myself: invest in the styles I know I’ll repeat and spend less, or rent, when I know I’m experimenting.

If you’re going for a bolder color, sparkly cyrstal, or metallic that will date quicker consider a cheap women’s cowboy boots instead of splurging. If you go for a beautiful suede pair, don’t forget to get the suede protector out. To protect against both rain and stains.

25 best women’s cowboy boots for 2026

These are the best women’s cowboy boots and cowgirl boots I could find for 2026, from designer styles and renowned Western boot makers like Lucchese and Ariat, to affordable pairs under $50. I’ve included classic black and white cowboy boots, brown and suede styles, dressier options and statement boots, and several come in multiple colors so it’s always worth clicking through if you love the style but not the shade I’ve featured.

I found my white cowboy boots on Amazon for under $50 and they’ve been surprisingly soft and comfortable. They do run big on me, so I sized down a full size. I also recently added a really good-quality pair of black leather knee-high cowboy boots. I’ve started volunteering at a ranch and am fully in my cowgirl era, so another pair felt justified! I sized down half a size in those and have been really happy with the fit and feel.

How should women’s cowboy boots fit

Women’s cowboy boots should feel snug and secure when they’re new, but never painfully tight. You still want enough room to wiggle your toes, and pay attention to where the widest part of your foot sits as well as how the heel feels. Leather boots can soften and give slightly with wear, but I wouldn’t buy a painfully tight pair assuming they’ll eventually stretch enough to fit.

I also always check the shaft height and circumference when shopping online, especially if I’m planning to tuck jeans into them. Fit varies significantly between brands and styles. For example, I sized down a full size in my affordable white cowboy boots but only half a size in my black leather pair, so don’t assume your cowboy boot size will automatically be the same across every brand.

Women’s western boots vs cowboy boots: What’s the difference?

The terms cowboy boots and Western boots are often used interchangeably in fashion, but Western boots are better thought of as the broader category. Cowboy boots are a type of Western boot traditionally designed with features such as a taller shaft, pull-on construction and a defined heel, while modern women’s Western boots can include everything from traditional cowboy and cowgirl boots to shorter, fashion-led interpretations.

For this guide, I’m using women’s cowboy boots, cowgirl boots and Western boots where they’re most natural rather than treating every fashion style as a traditional riding boot.

What’s the difference between women’s cowboy boots and cowgirl boots?

Cowboy boots and cowgirl boots are often used interchangeably when we’re talking about women’s fashion, and you’ll see retailers use both terms for very similar styles. “Cowgirl boots” tends to be used more often for women’s fashion styles, particularly embellished, colorful or more decorative designs like Betsey Johnson’s rhinestone ankle cowgirl boots, whereas “cowboy boots” can describe both traditional Western boots and fashion versions. Both are in style this year, so just choose a style that you love the most.

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the name when you’re shopping. Focus on the fit, shaft height, heel, toe shape and design you actually want to wear.

How to style women’s cowboy boots in 2026

When we think of cowboy boots, it’s easy to picture denim shorts, skinny jeans, boho dresses and cowboy hats, but cowboy boot outfits have moved well beyond the traditional cowgirl aesthetic. For 2026, I think they look best when there’s some contrast: feminine dresses with Western boots, structured tailoring with embroidered boots, or simple denim and knits with a statement pair.

The easiest rule is not to make every element Western. Let the boots do the work and keep the rest of the outfit more polished, feminine or minimal. You can absolutely still wear them with denim and boho dresses, but adding a blazer, sleek bag, trending sheer dress or more contemporary silhouette stops the outfit from feeling like a costume.

18 cowboy boots outfits: How to wear cowboy boots in 2026

The beauty of women’s cowboy and cowgirl boots is how versatile they are. You can style them with everything from feminine dresses and matching sets to denim jeans or denim shorts, leggings and tailoring, which makes them much easier to get repeat wear from than you might expect. These are 18 cowboy boots outfit ideas I’d actually wear, including celebrity-inspired looks and outfits for summer, Fall/Winter, casual days and nights out.

Cowboy boots outfit and the best white cowboy boots I could find.

1. With matching coord sets

Celebs have been styling their tall black cowboy boots with matching coord skirts and tops for a laid back look that’s easy to layer to take this trend from Summer to Fall to Winter. Whether it’s a 2 or 3 piece coord set, it’s an easy way to create a coordinated outfit that’s more street and less cowgirl.

2. Upscale women’s cowboy boots outfit

For a more upscale look, take style inspiration from Chanel and style them with structured and tailored midi skirt suits. Either buttoned up or open with a pearl choker and lace camisole underneath to soften the look and add a femme luxe touch. The key take away from their show was to keep it feminine.

Viard (Chanel’s Creative Director) says each piece is designed to be worn, remaining light and innately feminine.

Marie Claire

For a more glam look for the evenings, Chanel styled their women’s cowboy boots with a sheer black floor length gown which was a fresh take on this Fall Winter trend.

3. Celeb inspired women’s cowgirl boots outfit

Bustiers and midi skirts are both in style right now and perfect for Fall. Wear your cowboy boots with a bustier and matching midi skirt for an outfit that’ll take you from day to night and that’s easy to dress up or down.

4. Casual women’s cowboy boots outfit that’s not denim

Kylie Jenner styled hers with a black tank and midi skirt for a look that’s coordinated, casual and comfortable but more street and less country. You could also do this with women’s white cowboy boots and a white coord set for a lighter look for Spring. Especially as white tank tops are such a casual classic.

5. With a shirt dress

I love a crisp white shirt dress with any color cowboy boots. It brightens up black cowboy boots, looks super coordinated and stylish with white or right on trend with pink boots.

You could also style them with a denim shirt dress for a more casual look or even a plaid shirt dress but plaid looks a bit tired and played out unless you’re going line dancing or to a barn dance.

6. Sexy women’s cowboy boots outfit | With a mini skirt and white tank top

Add a leather jacket for a more modern on trend look, add a denim jacket to the mix for a more classic way to style this casual outfit. If you love coffee as much as I do and don’t trust yourself with white, black works just as well.

7. Classic style: women’s cowboy boots, cut offs and a tank top

Probably the most worn way to style them. Just stay away from tying a plaid shirt around your waist with this look as that styles a bit out dated. I tend to layer mine with a blazer to keep it a little more chic and a little less casual.

8. Fall women’s cowboy boots outfit

Throw on a sweater with your cowboy boots and cut offs and you’ve got a look that works great for both Fall and Spring. For the most fashion forward look, go for funnel neck or roll neck sweaters.

9. Under wide leg pants

Wide leg pants are still in style and a dressier way to wear them than with jeans.

10. Sleek cowboy boots outfits | With an LBD

This outfit works for both the day or night depending on the dress, heel height and accessories. I kept it casual for walking around Arizona.

11. Monochromatic white cowboy boots outfit

White cowboy boots go with almost everything and can look fresher and more fashion-forward than black, especially with lighter outfits. For a monochromatic white cowboy boots outfit, style them with a white mini or sweater dress, or white jeans and a simple tank or knit. Cream, ivory and bone also work if you don’t want the outfit to feel quite so stark.

Don’t save white cowboy boots just for summer either. I wear mine with denim shorts and dresses when it’s warm, then transition them into Fall/Winter with sweater dresses, denim, leather and neutral layers. For contrast, one of the easiest combinations is a black mini dress with white cowboy boots.

12. Cowboy boots with dresses

Cowboy boots with dresses are one of my favorite ways to wear the trend because the contrast between a feminine dress and a structured Western boot keeps the outfit from feeling too literal. Mini dresses are especially easy because you get enough space between the hem and top of the boot to keep your proportions balanced, which is something I pay particular attention to at 5’2″.

Midi dresses work beautifully too, whether you choose a print or solid color, and a dress with movement or a slit lets more of the boots show. For Fall/Winter, add a blazer, leather jacket or coat; for warmer weather, keep it simple and let the dress and boots be the focus.

13. Cozy winter cowboy boots outfit

I love sweater dresses with cowboy boots. They make a fitted or feminine sweater dress feel more relaxed than stilettos while still looking put together. You can style them with ankle, mid-calf or knee-high Western boots, but if you’re petite, pay attention to where the dress hem and boot shaft meet. I like some visible leg between the two rather than having them hit at almost the same point.

14. Casual cowboy boots outfit

Leggings create a streamlined look with cowboy boots, and since there are literally thousands of ways to wear leggings, it’s an easy way to keep your boots on repeat. Style them with a T-shirt, button-down shirt, sweater, blazer or sweater dress depending on how polished you want the outfit to feel.

15. How to style cowboy boots with jeans

Cowboy boots and jeans are an obvious pairing, but the silhouette of your denim makes a big difference. Skinny jeans are still one of the easiest styles to tuck into cowboy boots because you don’t have excess fabric bunching around the shaft, but they’re definitely not your only option. For 2026, straight-leg, bootcut and relaxed denim all work too. Bootcut and flare jeans worn over cowboy boots give you the most subtle Western look because you mainly see the pointed toe and heel.

If you want the entire boot on show, tuck slimmer jeans inside or choose cropped denim that leaves enough of the boot visible. I normally keep the top more polished with a fitted knit, white shirt, blazer or simple tank rather than making every part of the outfit Western. For more denim inspiration, see my guide to what jeans are in style in 2026, including the denim silhouettes and washes I’m actually wearing this year.

16. Women’s cowgirl boots + denim skirts

Denim midi and maxi skirts are another easy way to wear women’s cowgirl boots without going full Western. Style them with a fitted tank or T-shirt in warmer weather, then add a knit, blazer or leather jacket for Fall/Winter.

17. Summer western boots outfit

A cute summer dress and women’s Western boots make an easy warm-weather outfit and prove cowboy boots aren’t just for Fall/Winter. Mini dresses work particularly well because they balance the coverage of the boots, while white, cream and tan Western boots tend to feel lighter for summer. Denim shorts and a simple tank are another classic combination when you want something more casual.

18. Canadian tuxedo + cowboy boots

Double denim and cowboy boots are an obvious pairing, but I’d keep the styling clean so it feels fashion rather than costume. Try jeans with a denim shirt or jacket, then let the cowboy boots be the Western statement. I’d leave the giant Western buckle belt at home unless you’re actually going to the rodeo or that’s genuinely your aesthetic.

Women’s cowboy boots FAQ

Are cowboy boots still in style in 2026?

Yes. Women’s cowboy boots and Western boots are still in style for 2026, but the most current outfits tend to mix them with feminine, tailored or minimalist pieces rather than styling the entire look Western. Black, brown, suede and white cowboy boots are especially versatile, while metallic and embellished styles make more of a statement.

Can you wear cowboy boots with dresses?

Absolutely. Cowboy boots work with mini, midi and maxi dresses, although I find mini dresses particularly flattering with taller boots because they leave some space between the hem and boot shaft. Try suede boots with floaty dresses for a softer look, black boots with a mini dress for something edgier, or white cowboy boots with lighter summer dresses.

Can you wear cowboy boots in summer?

Yes. Style cowboy boots with mini dresses, denim shorts, skirts and lightweight fabrics in summer. White, cream, tan and lighter suede styles tend to feel especially seasonal, but black cowboy boots can work year-round.

What color cowboy boots are easiest to style?

Black, brown, tan and white are the most versatile. I’d invest more in a classic neutral pair you’ll wear for years and spend less on very trend-driven colors, metallics or heavily embellished styles unless you know you’ll wear them regularly.

Do cowboy boots go over or under jeans?

Both. Slim and skinny jeans can be tucked into cowboy boots when you want the entire boot visible, while bootcut and flare jeans are designed to fall over boots. Straight-leg jeans can work either way depending on the width of the leg and boot shaft.
