2021 Fashion Trends Your Wardrobe Needs
I’m actually excited about the return of jeans as they really weren’t around in 2020. They’re so versatile and easy to dress up with a pair of mules, designer belt and a blazer or down with a tee. Plus there’s a shape and cut to flatter everyone.
Expect jeans this year to be either bag, straight leg, distressed or boot cut (not as flared as last year).
Paco Rabanne Womenswear Spring/Summer 2021 Paris Fashion Week. Just add heels and a blazer for a chic and timeless European look.
Sheer fabrics are perfect for spring summer 2021 fashion trends. Think pretty, loose and flowy tops and layered pieces rather than ouvertly sexy. As seen at fashion week on the Spring/Summer 2021 runways at Christian Dior, Rick Owen and Fendi to name a few.
Fashion Color Trends 2021 | Neutrals
Monochromatic beige and neutral tones are sticking around in 2021. An easy fashion for anyone to wear. Look for structured, stylish pieces that can still make a style statement.
Luxe Athleisure Wear
With more of us working from home and balancing motherhood, with errands, work and hopefully getting back to a safe, social calendar this look is practical and stylish. Look for luxe fabrics like satin and silk, and tailored tops and joggers to keep this look stylish rather than looking like you’re going to the gym.

Versace always does this best; their starfish and seashell print is iconic.
If head to toe print is too much for you break it up with solid colors.

2021 Fashion Trends | Feminine Floral Prints
Delicate floral prints on everything from girly tops to floaty dresses is a key fashion trend for 2021.
For 2021 fashion trends, floral prints can be boho style in pink and pastel colors as seen on the Spring/Summer 2021 NYFW runways or dark and understated. If you look back to Veronica Beard Spring/Summer 2018 fashion show during New York Fashion Week she was already showing florals, ruffles and wide leg trousers back then.
One of my favorite floral print dresses to grace the SS2021 runways (Shenzhen Fashion Week S/S 2021) is this gorgeous VIMAGE cut out maxi dress. The movement is beautiful and I love the thick gold chain detail at the waist (pair with another 2021 fashion trend – strappy sandals or heels with chain accents).
If dark colors are more your style, dark florals are in as well like this floral bodysuit from Lorna Luxe In The Style Collection.
Shoulder Pads | 2021 Fashion Trends to Steal from Fashion Week
Statement shoulders are another trend making it through to 2021. I love mutton sleeves, puff shoulders and shoulder pads. Even tank tops are getting the shoulder pad upgrade. The plus being they make your arms look skinnier which I’m grateful for after 2020’s over indulgences.
Keeping cozy comfort going, knits and loungewear have a feel good factor. Even Prada and Max Mara showcased oversized hoodies on their runways. After all, where are we really going to wearing beautiful cocktail dresses this year?
Wear a complete knit loungewear set or a cozy knit sweater with patent leggings to stay in style for 2021.
Lighten up for 2021 Fashion Trends | Pastels
Say goodbye to neon and hello to pretty pastels for 2021 fashion trends.
Suits get a bold patterned upgrade for 2021 Fashion trends
Suits get an update with bold prints and tailored cuts as seen on the runways at Christian Siriano, Fendi, Badgley Mischka, Balmain and Cinq á Sept to name a few.
Houndstooth is one of the key fashions for 2021 and a classic print that always looks classy and stylish.
Spring Summer 2021 Fashion Trends | Ruffled tops and skirts
If it’s feminine count me in. Strategically placed girly ruffles are a spring summer 2021 trend I’m looking forward to. I may even start early and just add a leather coat and boots. Another fashion trend for 2021 is lace so why not combine the 2 trends for a really femme look.
Gucci showed a really dramatic version with ruffles and tulle at their 2021 fashion show in Milan.
Wide Leg Pants / Trousers
The biggest pant trend for Fall Winter 2020 was wide leg trousers and it’s staying here for 2021 along with leggings and low-waisted pants. Wide leg trousers can really help with proportions especially with a neatly tailored waist or belted for an über flattering waistline.
Think wide leg but not to the point that they become flares. Intermix, Veronica Beard and Galvan all have some gorgeous pairs in luxe fabrics that I’ve linked below.
These wide leg trousers by LIE were part of the prerecorded runway show at Seoul Fashion Week 2021 SS. It’s another 2021 fashion trend that translates off on the runway into everyday life.
Are Leggings in Fashion 2021?
Yes! Love them or hate them leggings are back but to be on trend in 2021 make them Vinyl as seen at Saint Laurent.

Cropped Everything | Sweatshirts, Jackets & Bralettes
If 2020 was the year for comfort eating, then these cropped trends are enough motivation to make 2021 the year of toned abs. Crop tops are nothing new to the runways and fashion magazines, they started making a comeback in 2019 with cute bralettes but get ready for this fashion to really take off in the Summer of 2021!
For a more wearable, ab friendly look, wear a cropped jacket over a regular length top or dress.
Chanels bralette’s were delicate and floral with sparkling accessories. Watch Chanel Spring Summer 2021 Runway Show for all of their looks and style inspiration.
Dolce and Gabbana have always led the way when it comes to patchwork and 2021 is no different. Colorful, playful and vibrant, it’s just what out wardrobe needs for 2021.
This sleek one shoulder patchwork dress by Missioni makes this 2021 fashion trend super wearable with it’s flattering cut and more subdued design.
Longer length shorts
Since I’m petite I’m going to be sticking to shorter length shorts that work better with my proportions and muscular legs. The longer length shorts can be super flattering and wearable though, we’re talking tailored shorts not board or baggy shorts for 2021.
LYNEE collection show by Chinese designer Li Huizhen at China Fashion Week combined monochromatic neutrals, bralette tops and tailored shorts.
Bags | 2021 Fashion Trends
I’m so happy to see a bag trend that’s practical but most of us women tote around half of our lives in our bags.
Totes are always a practical option and were seen on various runways for 2021 including Givenchy, Altuzarra, Loewe, Balmain, Dior, Prada and Valentino. What’s not to love about this trend!
Other bag trends include market totes, candy colored bags of all shapes and sizes, Chanel cross body bags, super thin leather bags from Hermès
2021 Fashion trends | Shoes
Time to go back to getting regular pedicures as strappy heels and flats are one of the hottest 2021 fashion trends.
Thick chain accents on shoes
I’ve been loving the gold chain necklace and ankle bracelet trend and love it just as much on shoes. 2021 is the year of over accessorizing and making everything more fabulous. If chains aren’t your thing, look for shoes with jeweled accents: Roger Vivier and Manolo are the kings of this trend.
Gitta Banko wearing Numeroventuno heels
Fuzzy House shoes
I’m not mad about this trend. I love high heels but also love comfort. I’m not sure I’ll be wearing them outside of the house, but at home 100%.
Shoes worn by the models during the Gabriela Hearst Womenswear Spring/Summer 2021 show at Paris Fashion Week.
Did you get into the kitten heel mules trend in 2020? I was hoping these would never make a comeback as my dancers calves don’t suit these but here they are again.
The kitten heel can look really elegant and elevate a simple pair of jeans. Fashion houses Valentino, Prada, Balenciaga and Miu Miu all included kitten heels in their shows.
Janka Polliani (Manolo Blahnik shoes), Darja Barannik (green sandals by Bottega Veneta) and Tine Andrea at Copenhagen Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2021.
I always have at least one pair of ballet flats on my shoe wall. They’re always a good timeless classic for running around cities and long days on my feet at work so I’m grateful to see these back in fashion for 2021. It’s worth investing in a designer pair since these are made for comfort rather than a cheap pair that gives you blisters and defeats the point.
Valentino rockstar studded ballet pumps are still in style along with new styles from designers such as Simone Rocha, Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci and Prada.
I’m loving these convertible pointed black horsebit ballet flats from Gucci for combining 2 trends: ballet flats and a thick chain accent. Plus the heel folds down at the back so that they can be worn as ballet flats or mules!!! How clever is that.

Thick sole flip flops
Another super comfy trend for 2021. Thick soled flip flops are another option for flats for 2021 fashion trends along with ballet slippers, flat forms and fuzzy slip ons.
Some of the flip flops for 2021 are bare with thick padded soles as seen at Stella McCartney and Acne Studios. Others like those at Roger Vivier are more embellished.
One of the few fashion trends in 2021 I’m going to pass on. I know they’re comfortable and easy to slip on but I remember having bruised ankles from the first time around.
If you’re into the clog trend, find inspiration from Hermés and Stella McCartney. For high street versions, look to Shopbop and Everlane who both have a good collection in lots of different colors.
